Depends on how this new member is introduced and treats the child.....if this is a future spouse...there are alot of factors. Ask the children how they feel.

When my boys where 4 & 11, I caught my then 11 year old telling the the 4 year old to get all the loving you can now it dose not last long! So, yes, I can say it does effect the family. Be sure to treat all family members as equals this will help.

If you mean adverse effect: the child might feel that he/she is being replaced or displaced by an additional member of the family - particularly a new sibling or step-parent.

It depends on the background of the new family member, the environment they grew in, it could either be negative or positive.
if you mean the addition of a new baby, this might bring a bit of jealousy in your children but they will later accept the new child.

IF THE NEW FAMILY MEMBER IS A MAN COMING INTO YOUR FAMILY THEN HE MUST EARN THE CHILDREN'S RESPECT, AND BE A FRIEND TO THEM FIRST. IF ITS A NEW CHILD THEN YOU MUST NOT PUSH THE OTHER KIDS AWAY, MAKE TIME FOR THEM AS A GROUP AND INDIVIDUALLY, AND INVOLVE THEM WITH THE NEW BABY.

it all depends on how the member is introduced & what role they play - kids do & will adapt when made to in a loving manor . BE POSITIVE they will feed off of that when insecure. good luck .
