That's because parts of it seem contradictory or counter-intuitive if you take them literally, or out of historical or literal context. After all, the Bible is a set of books written by different people in different languages thousands of years ago. It is only reasonable that there would be something lost in the translation, especially given the ambiguity of the English language. It may also require a great deal of research to resolve the issues you confront them with, and they satisfied themselves of what they believe and do not remember how to explain it to you. Ignorance and laziness are also sometimes reasons, but there are some people who are able to explain those issues to you. If you really want good answers to your questions, you should try a few apologetics websites.

Except for murder, slavery has got to be one of the most immoral things a person can do. Yet slavery is rampant throughout the Bible in both the Old and New Testaments. The Bible clearly approves of slavery in many passages, and it goes so far as to tell how to obtain slaves, how hard you can beat them, and when you can have sex with the female slaves.
Many Jews and Christians will try to ignore the moral problems of slavery by saying that these slaves were actually servants or indentured servants. Many translations of the Bible use the word "servant", "bondservant", or "manservant" instead of "slave" to make the Bible seem less immoral than it really is. While many slaves may have worked as household servants, that doesn't mean that they were not slaves who were bought, sold, and treated worse than livestock.
The following passage shows that slaves are clearly property to be bought and sold like livestock.
However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

It's easy to cut and paste quotes from the Bible...What you want them to explain what it means as well?
You are asking a lot! Theology, the study of deeper meaning and context is not something promoted by those fanatical Christian sects that so gleefully post messages of hate, damnation and cursing to everyone but themselves.

Well i am a Christian, a Bible College Graduate, an ordained minister, a seminary student, and soon to be seeking my doctoral in Biblical Studies and Theology and i will quote you anything, lol that i have memorized, that you want me too. I am not ashamed of anything in God's Word, none of it is wrong, at least in my opinion, none of it. So i would write it down and quote it and whatever you want me to do. Thanks though, hope that view helped a little,
Matt

Compare scripture against scripture. The answer is in the Bible dispite what you may believe, you should try asking the guidance of the Holy Spirit whenever you are reading it that he will open your understanding.

Evidently you ask Christians a lot of questions, do they in turn ask you about your beliefs?

.Because they don't search the scriptures for them selves they listen to a preacher or whatever and don't really know anything about the Word of God.
