I've noticed that my cat's fur actually smells pretty nice, but my eyes start to water whenever she breathes in my face. So why is it that her fur, which she cleans with her own combustible spit, smells nice?

I'm not asking how to make her breath smell less yucky, I'm asking how her fur smells nice despite her spit. So to speak.

You have a point.. uhm I actually would not know the answer.
I could venture a guess though. Maybe cats have special glands for fur-treatment and a special one for 'breathing in your personals face'. Could be it...
Talking nosehair singeing. Do you remeber from Highschool in chemistry where they put two DANGEROUS substances togetter and it became an eatable one?
That must be it.

My cat's fur used to smell like my perfume because I was always picking him up. I never smelled his breath. Maybe the evaporation of the saliva made the smell less noticeable on your cat's fur. That, or she lays on carpets and furniture and the odors from those things are attached to her fur.

I wonder that too...both of my cats smell clean all the time even though I can only give one of them a bath. (The other one tries to rip my eyes out). However, they don't have bad breath. I've learned that the breath thing can be controlled with the proper kitty food...I use Science Diet Indoor Formula!

I have 3 cats. Two of them have breath that's never bothered me. The third on (who is the cleanest and softest of them all) has killer breath. I feed him only dry food and the vet says his teeth are clean. So I guess it's just the way he is.

Because they lie on things that have been washed and have different smells that smell good.

You eat rat and lizard and see how your breath smells.

Do you feed her wet food? If so, I would feed her kibble-type food instead. It is better for her teeth and mouth, and her breath will improve!

Most pets take after their owners in this regard.
