I also have problems with sleeping. A lot of it is probably to do with stress/anxiety. I've started listening to a relaxation CD when I go to bed and I have found that this is really making me sleep well. It may not work too well at first but give it a week or two and it should do. Also have you considered that the mattress or pillow you are sleeping on may not be making you comfortable?

Before you try the drugs I would suggest something less addictive.
Virgin vie do this amazing bubble bath called slumber time or something like that - it's amazing.
Have a nice hot bubble bath before you go to bed and you'll have a wonderfull nights sleep.
Other than that - a new mattress and pillows is always a good bet.
If that doesn't work, get your partner to give you a nice massage.
What I've also found that always helps is this light, it slowly goes out like the sun setting and sends me to sleep, it also comes on slowly in the morning like sun rise to wake you up naturally - it's wonderful. I got mine from bupa.co.uk
If all else fails then head to the doctor.

Is there something worrying you? That can have a real effect on sleeping. Make sure you are getting plenty of excercise and not eating too near bedtime - also, try some relaxation or breathing excercised before you got to bed to clear the mind. Also, check out some of the answers to my question on sleep - they may help as well.

If you're not sleeping properly it may be due to you having something on your subconscious mind. Keep a note pad and pen by the bed and note down your worries as they come to you in the night with the promise to yourself that you will deal with them in the morning.
Treat yourself to new pillows and wash your bed linen regularly. Don't let your bedroom get too hot (an open window is the best option) and try to avoid alcohol before you go to bed - it may help you get to sleep but will cause broken sleep in the night as your body processes it.
Sweet dreams...

Before you go to bed, like about 30 minutes before, eat a small snack. I suggest 1-2 oz of turkey (triptophan - spelling approximate), a cracker or a cookie, or if you are concerned about your weight - a low glycemic carbohydrate and some nuts - almonds or peanuts are best. This is a recipe for some slow burning energy that will help level your blood sugar out for the night.
If your restlessness is due to your brain seeking blood sugar, because it is getting low in the middle of the night, this recipe will help that.
If this works, and you should know it in about 3 days if it will, you may want to check out www.hufa.org for more info on low blood sugar, its causes and things you can do about it.

Good sleep requires good 'sleep hygiene'- sounds like a strange word, but basically means you need to use the bedroom for sleeping and sex alone, avoid watching TV or other stimuli late at night and if you are having trouble sleeping, get out of bed and do something quiet, like reading for example until you are tired. It's also a good idea to avoid caffeine and food late at night.

It sounds like it may be stress or anxity or maybe you need a new mattress. It's hard to get a good night's sleep or stay asleep very long on a crappy mattress. Sometimes a sound machine helps people sleep. Sharper Image has them, but they're probably much cheaper on Ebay.

Is there something that bothers you? Find someone to wind it out. Is there any guilt, fear, tension? Again, you need to talk it out. If there is nothing worrying you try the following:
-Have a warm glass of milk before bedtime.
-Listen to some soothing music
-pray or read scriptures
-Avoid stimulating games or movies at bedtime
-Avoid reading at bedtime
-See that you bed is wrinkle free and comfortable and the temperature of your room is adequate
-Avoid stimulants like tea or coffee at bedtime
If youdo all these and still it doesnt work, perhaps you need medical attention. Go seek one; before you have complications of sleep deprivation
