Hey i said "everything they need" not "everything there is to have".Some of you seem quite judgemental on that - but I hope that when I'm in my 70's I have everything I need!

Take their wedding photo and have it colorized (if its black and white) or take their colored wedding photo and have it either made into an oil painting or a canvas photo.

I 've done it, and they were very pleased

I think that a good and personal gift is if you buy a really nice photo frame, get hold of a nice photo of the couple and have it blown up a bit - volia - it shows that you have put thought and effort into it, and it will not be something that they already have.
Alternatively, a romanic treat - something like a hot air balloon ride at dusk (with or without champagne) or something like that - it all depends how much you want to spend.

I would take the time and give them a handmade scrapbook with pictures of them of their courtship and wedding and beyond. Consider little stamped sayings on cards, photos of places they have been and some good quotes then end it with something special considering the future of their 50th anniversary. Maybe advice from other people married 50 years or more!

Be creative and because it came from you and your heart, it will mean more to them than anything purchased.

Consider all the things that they are passionate about. It might be kids, animals, art, music, cooking, etc. Then select a gift from that area. Or commemorate their love by sponsoring an animal at the zoo, planting a tree in their favorite park, dedicating a star to them by adopting a star.

As they are so fortunate then would it not be great to think of those who are not. You can buy on their behalf (and the charity will send a thank-you card to the couple) all sorts for thr less developed world. A chicken or a flock of chickens. A donkey. Grain. A well. Education for a named kid.

Very easy. Get on the net and help your friends to help others

A gift certificate of a place you know they always shop. People say gift cards are so impersonal but thing is, they buy what THEY want. Just make sure to a place you know they love or to a place they NEED to get stuff from!

How much do you wana spend? Meal vouchers are good. Or tickets for a concert, musical, play etc, whatever they are into. what about ticket for an amusement park, Alton towers or wherever they are from. A food and wine hamper. a membership to a club, ie, the national trust or a whiskey lovers club.

Bottle of wine. Bonus points if the vintage is the year they were married. Or, gift certificate to a nice restaurant (IOU for babysitting included, if the couple has kids.)
