I have finally decided on Arabian Sands on the walls with Cloudy Day for a contrast wall but now I need to decide whether to use flat, satin, or eggshell. Does it really make much difference?

Yes it makes a difference. Buy whatever colors you choose but buy them in a quality SATIN.

Satin has more agents in it allowing it more clean ability and is less porous than flat or eggshell. It will last longer, look better, and in the end, be cost effective.

I've never used eggshell, but I know that satin works much better than flat does. Flat tends to show all the imperfections in how you painted the room. Satin covers up the imperfections a lot better. Learned from painting several rooms in my new house. A friend of mine that is a professional decorator told me to use satin instead of flat. I could definitely tell the difference.

Also, one other great tip is to use the right length of handle on your roller. It may seem inconsequential, but it makes a humongous difference in time savings. For an 8' tall ceiling use a handle that is about 1.5'-2' long (the kind that come with a paint tray in a small $6 kit). It cut my painting time in half. No more bending down to reach the floor or climbing on a ladder to reach the ceiling and no more handle getting in the way if the handle is too long.

It makes a huge difference in the appearance believe it or not. Flat finishes hide flaws in the wall and is usually recommended for rooms and areas without high traffic or activity as it doesn't take cleaning too well. An eggshell finish will give somewhat of a sheen to the wall which light plays off of and is a more durable finish. Satin is usually recommended for kitchen and baths because it's easy to clean and works well in areas with humidity.

Yes, there's a big difference . . . Satin & eggshell are much the same in regards to sheen. Eggshell will give you the better of the two in appearance and durability over a semi-gloss or flat; though it really depends on lifestyle and need for cleaning, i.e., is there kids in the house.

Flat or eggshell your walls and semi-gloss your trim and I think you'll be very pleased with the results.

Satin, satin, satin...gives a beautiful look to the walls once they are finished and is very durable. When u have to clean around the light switches and such, this finish is the best for not losing it's beauty after being cleaned many, many times. Good luck

I would use satin, eggshell or a semi gloss, I usually opt for a semi gloss, has a nice sheen but not shiney like enamel and washes really well, I even use the semi gloss on the ceilings. Good Luck in your choice.

All depends on the finish on your walls, such as drywall or plaster. I prefer satin on my plaster walls. All a matter of preference, ask in the paint department , they will give good advise! Good luck, the colors sound pretty!
