Is this to imply to me that their stuff is so heavy they have to hold on to it to keep it from falling off?

OK, I should have said, "gangsta types." Sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone. Obviously I did. I was referring to the two black males that I saw walking to the mall the other day. Both were holding on to themselves.

Well to be fair its not just black guys who do it, I see lots of young lads of all races doing it. We refer to them as "Wanna be gangsters" they wonder around thinking they look "cool" doing a silly limping type walk, holding their "package" in one hand and making a silly gesture with the other while tutting and sucking their teeth.....mmmmmmm think its their way of saying......"Hey look at me, I'm hard cause I got bollocks"!!!! (LOL) or maybe thats where they stashed their pee shooters? Twats!!!!

The importance of ettiquette is relevant to the community you are in. Which young black males do you know? Are they medical students, wearing suits or white lab coats? Young black entrepreneurs, at meetings with their intelligent peers?

Or, are they (as I believe you are saying), young black "gangsta" types, that you are obviously holding all black men in stereotype with? Some young black males have bad manners, because manners are not relevant in their circle of friends. Not to shock you or anything, but the proclivity to have poor etiquette is rampant among under-educated, disenfranchised, inner-city dwellers, and this behavior is seen among members of all races, heritages, and ethnicities. If you wrote this question to ruffle people's feathers, get educated on "etiquette" yourself. What you said is either "rude" or "ignorant" on your part. Either way, as a well-mannered person, I will give you the benefit of the doubt, and try not to take offense. Thank you for your question. I hope it educates others who share your view.

Obviously not all young black males do this - but for the minority I think you refer to, it's just posturing and bravado. A gesture of protection which implies they are at constant risk of attack. Adopting such affectations identifies the individual as a product of a certain background - like a physical version of gang colours.

Lol @ "They just want you to notice what they have to offer" more like cats showing off their teeth right?
For males, touching your private simply gives a pleasant feeling and it's probably thesame for females, jus that it'll look more awkward if they do thesame.
Notice that some men get used to scratching that area (especially their bolls) even when they're not itched...they enjoy it.
Some think it a dirty habit though. I do. And am a black male.
oh, and some do it to check their trousers from draggin on the ground.

Okay. I grew up around my brother and around other guys. They would hold their stuff and so would I. My brother tried to tell me that I didn't have anything down there to hold (Ladies, guys really just don't know), but I kept on. I'm sure it looked ridiculous!

The thing is, no one treated me differently because of my gender. But even funnier, now my daughter "holds" herself.

Madonna, TLC, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears.... I am not fans of these females, but we all have something in common!

It's probable because they have to. To keep their pants from falling off. I had an experience with my cousin, with him walking up the stairs. And cops catch a lot more ppl running from them now (from a Wall Street Journal article) because they trip and fall onthey're boxer exposing pants. Probably because they do want to attract attention actually.

It's a matter of role models and it is not just black males. It happens to be young males that are into today's Pop culture. It's a matter of identity. They like what they see on MTV and they have a lack of role models around them to look up to; so, they copy what they think is "cool" or "in". .... teenagers!
