Yeah, it pretty much means what it says: if you're a woman, don't wear guy clothes. If you're a man, don't wear girl clothes. If you're going to wear pants, make sure they're women cut pants, and if a guy is going to wear a kilt, make sure it's a guys kilt.

The word Deuteronomy means in the Greek "second law" (Deuteros nomos). Moses gave these to the second generation of Jews that were about to enter the promised land as they stood on the plains of Moab. So that's the context of the verse you question. The whole theme of the book is an exhortation to the Jews to remember their laws before entering Canaan.
The verse itself is really more about deceit than anything, telling the Jews not to be someone they are not. The assumption is that if a man puts on a woman's garment, it is for a sexual purpose, to deceive another man into sex, and that in itself would be an abomination.

I think some churches get carried away with this scripture. Simply , wear the clothing of your sex. However, I also believe this, if I should happen to wear one of my husband's T's to bed, in my opinion, this is not a sin. I am NOT wearing the T because I want to dress as a man, or want everyone to think I am a man. I wear it because it's soft, big and comfy, and I have NO desire to be a man!

Men must not wear women's clothes and vice versa, because this is not natural. God made men and God made women and he wanted to make them different. If a man wears women's clothes he is protesting against God's will which is blasphemy.

god's laws are the laws of nature.... even when god speaks to humans or thinks the words law. they see their governmental type laws.... man made. that's why reading the bible is a tricky business. I say to anyone reading it... read it once right through and if god is really with you, you will get what you need. The way humans study this book simply reinforces human interpretation and shuts out god.

It appears to be forbidding cross dressing by both sexes. However, keep in mind that this is Old Testament. The New Testament is what Christianity is based of.

Boundaries are a big focus of Scripture. When you understand boundaries & roles, it helps avoid confusion. This passage is saying that men are not to wear women's clothing, & women are not to wear men's clothing.

It means don't cross dress. When my father would drag me to Church I read Revalations and the old testament until I got to the part where Abraham's nephew (Lot?) had sex and children with his daughters.
