I'm going to HK soon and I've heard pple say that you MUST bargain when you shop @ their open air markets. However, how low can you bargain till? Like 50% of their offer price or more?

What you need to do is to check out the prices at normal shops first. this will give you a baseline to work under your price. You can try going 50% off the opening price but then again, sometimes it may not be enough for you. So better have a figure yourself.

Go and ask from stall to stall. Their opening prices will tell you something. Much differences means price can be much lower. If all open about the same price, generally it meant the opening price is not that high after all. So be ready to knock off 50% or even 70% with your bargain. You know you reach the seller's pain threshold when he winces at your price. then offer just a bit more. If he is still smiling, he is still earning a profit!

Bargaining is an art, you have to try to read the seller's face and save yourself money. Go and learn. Nothing like practices to make you a pro.

don't stop until you reach 50% or more ask what price will be if you buy more than one item.be polite but do not act too interested.....it is ok but not what you really want or you have already spent too much money say thank you very pleasantly and waalk away.they will come with an offer. offer less than that and don't buy unless it's 50 or more off particularly at stalls and markets.I get 5 dollar necklaces for 1 dollar and scarves at 25 for 5.Just be nice and friendly.learn to say thank you in the language of whatever country you are in.

start with 30%, pretend u are not that interested, try a few places, bargain for different items although all you want is only 1 item, make the seller confuse, tell the seller the stall at the other end sell cheaper but u're too lazy to get back there, at the end, pay no more than 70%.

Yes, in Hong Kong, start with 30% first. Once you reach 60% you get it.

But just cross the custom to Shen Zen, things are different. You can not use Hong Kong rule any more. You have to start with 10%! Especially if you are white.

Shopping experience in Hong Kong are pretty much better than in China. IN China, it is very stressful to bargain, and you will never know the quality of goods. Hong Kong? It is always better.
