You should wake up earlier to get a proper routine going. So for example wake up everyday at 6 or 7 in the morning and make sure you have alot planned for the day, and dont take a nap in the afternoon, and slowly you will start to feel tired earlier on at about 10 or so. Cut out all coffee after 7pm, and dont eat anything in the 2 hours before you go to sleep. And if you feel tired during the day and feel that you must nap for little bit, do not nap at anytime past 4 in the afternoon. The best solution is to make sure you have stuff to do during the day then you wont be so awake at night. If all that fails it could be that you have something plaging your subconcious and you probably feeling guilty or unsettled about something, in which case you should go and see someone. Hope you have a good nights sleep. Sweet Dreams

It sounds like you've tried most natural ways. Here are a couple tips. Don't do anything in bed except sleep because then the bed will be associated with sleep only. Exercise, but at least 4 hours before bedtime. Don't watch TV before bed, it will fill your brain with images. If you have too many thoughts keeping you awake, try writing them down to get them out of your head. If still nothing works, you can try Nyquil or Tylenol PM. If you need something stronger, see your doctor for a sleeping pill prescription, such as Ambien. Good luck (and good night).

Ha Ha Ha - you have the same habits I have and you are viewing them in the wrong perspective by thinking they are problems !!
You forget that the night is the only time you can do all the creative things you have still not discovered within you. Painting, writing, sculpture and so many others can only be done in the still of the night when you are alone with yourself. And reading is a habit I am sure you have not developed properly. For starters buy a book - I suggest a big fat book like Centinniel by James Michener or War and Peace ..etc - and read them in bed .. and see how your eyes will droop and in a few months you will be in the habit and will be sleeping in time and well .. Best of luck

Everyone has sleep problems from time to time but if it's having an affect on your time awake..try staying away from things that stimulates you. No tv, no computer, no caffeine sodas, nothing sweet. If you want to be in bed at 10pm. Start a couple hours before winding down. Take a shower, use some aromatherapy soap that has a relaxing affect on you. Make a cup of chamomile tea. Find a interesting book and relax with it and some soft music. There is nothing like getting into a bed that is clean and fresh...so change your linens...just that alone is a great relaxer. Best wishes and sweet dreams...

what works for me:

have an active day so you are physically tired towards the end of the day

relax 30-40 minutes before going to bed. this means no caffeine, no tv, no movies, no radio (unless its soft music), etc. a hot shower or reading a paper/magazine/book is good, stretching (like yoga or just stretching) or journaling.

I take melatonin, which is an over the counter sleep aid. melatonin is what your body produces at night, when you need to sleep. It won't make you fall asleep, but it'll help you get sleepy.

i also use soft ear plugs and a sleep mask. :-)

You can try an over the counter sleep aid, like Tylenol P.M., but it may make you feel a little groggy in the morning, depending on how you handle those sorts of medications. I find that happens to me.

Try lying still in bed, as comfortable as possible, and slowly counting backwards from 100, focusing everything in your body on just doing the counting and not letting your mind wander to something else. Deep breathing may also help while counting, too. Hope that helps.

Your metabolism is screwed. What you have to do(worked for me):
Example. Today is Monday. Don`t go to sleep at all monday night and Tuesday night go to sleep from 9 pm(you will sure be tired). Repeat this 3 or 4 times to get used to go to sleep at 9 10 pm
PS: Make the second day without sleep very active, even if you feel like you`re so sleepy :>

stress can keep a person awake for a life time it seams but I find that when I have a hard time sleeping a hot shower and then I just go to bed and close my eyes and find a spot on the inside of my closed eyes to concentrate on and maybe even counting backward from 100 slowly will help me sleep.

It seems you are more stressed. So you can listen to some good Indian carnatic songs which have a healing effect on stress. And this is been tried out as music therapy.
