During battle in Medieval times up to to the present, in hand to hand combat, a long haired man is easier to grab hold of and disable ( Kill).
Shaving and short hair are old military requirements that have crossed over to western civilisation in relatively recent times
( the last 200 years)
As an interesting side note about hair, when a man has an affair with an other woman.
The new woman normally has longer hair than the discarded woman. (Long hair indicating fertility)

Not all boys/men in our society have short hair. And not all societies have men with short hair.
Apparently, having long hair is a way to show that you are healthy. In order to grow long hair, one would have to be healthy and have access to food, etc for an extended period of time (years). From a biological standpoint, appearing more healthy would attract more mates.

probably because girls like to look more like girls and boys like to look more like boys hence the short hair for boys and long hair for girls

who says so - most punk rockers have long hair and go to most corporates, the women dont have long hair :)
Men have enough hair already and so dont really want one more place to groom (anyway its a drag shaving daily, who wants more hair to groom)
women by nature like grooming and they make the most of the precious resource they have :)

well thats an interesting question........
u know wat? i feel this is because girls are more soft and sensitive....so hair provides a cover on their brains!
and boys.........non emotional guys....can go without that to
but these days guls r no more that sensitive so they dont seek a cover........and boyz do!!!
