If there are no nerve endings to transmit pain sensations in the brain. How can we feel head aches from stress, de-hydration etc but not usually from actual damage to the brain?

When I think of head aches I usually think of them on the outside of my skull what about you? I feel head aches above my eyes almost under my eye brows not actually coming from inside my brain (as if i could tell the difference haha) That's a really good question tho. I think they're mental manifestations of pain vs real nerve ending damage like a cut. Thinking about it more I rarely get head aches and the only times I do are caffeine induced or from doing something I dont want for too long. I think they're a way for our body to tell us we're not doing something it likes. How little head aches relate to migraines I dont know tho. I think it's like feeling gross after drinking too much, it's not muscles aches it's a different sensation like "damn I shouldn't have done that" our bodies want to punish us hoping we won't do it again. I've heard that you can make a head ache go away by closing your eyes and visualizing certain things and shapes so it's probably a mental thing vs a never thing. I think deep relaxation and a healthy lifestyle would eliminate head aches! I know I only get head aches when I'm unhealthy.

When you have a headache it may feel like your brain is hurting but actually your brain cant feel pain. It tells you when other parts of your body hurts. Headaches happen outside of your skull in the nerves and muscles that cover your head and neck. Sometimes the muscles tighten and put pressure on the nerves. These nerves send a "pain" message to your brain and you end up with a headache.

But there are many nerve endings Around and Out of it. For example any stress causing the head muscles to contract, then the pain transfers. So one feels "headache" and not necessarily "brain ache"!

Headaches have a wide variety of causes, ranging from eyestrain, sinusitis and tension to life-threatening conditions such as encephalitis, meningitis, cerebral aneurysms and brain tumors. When the headache occurs in conjunction with a head injury the cause is usually quite evident; however, many causes are more unclear. The most common type of headache is a tension headache. Some experience headaches when dehydrated; caffeine withdrawal is another common cause.

The actual headache process is caused by nerves that surround your skull, apparently. It is something to do with the blood flow - when our blood pressure raises, it causes restriction round the head area, which triggers off reactions in the nerve endings.

You are right though, the brain itself has no pain receptors.

We have treated 15 - 20 yrs cases. There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic. Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it. Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see. Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole. Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you. But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong. If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds. I read a scientific paper once which claimed that migraine is "all in the mind". It is to do with rapid firing of the neurons on the brain which get misinterpreted and perceived as pain.
