What do you think happens when you die?

When you die, your brain ceases to function. All of the tiny electric currents that jumped from one brain synapse to another while you were alive slow to a stop. Your body no longer functions and your brain activity soon stops completely.

At that point, the person that we knew as You is gone.

Because your body cannot be revived, your personality can never be recreated or resurrected along with the memories and other details about your life.

You have no thoughts, no pain, and no awareness of your existence.

Your family and friends see the empty shell of your body, but You are not really there. You are gone forever, like millions of others who died before you.

Your dreams, your loves and your hopes - gone. All that is left of you is a box of possessions you owned while you were alive and the memories that your living friends and family have of you. Your body is all that is physically left of you. It may have been buried, cremated, or donated for scientific study. If you were rich and philanthropic, a building or a charitable foundation may still bear your name. Otherwise, you may have a gravestone at a cemetery. Or nothing at all.

You do not miss your loved ones. They think of you and imagine that you are still with them, but you do not stand invisible, watching them from a distance.

You simply cease to be.

Well, I like to think of it this way:

What happens when you turn off your TV?

Of course the answer is simple. Your TV that was so loud and bright and animated, simply goes dark.

However, the effects of the TV, when it was on, linger with you. Maybe you are still chuckling at that stupid South Park joke. Maybe you go share that silly joke with your friends tomorrow. Maybe you curse when you pay your electricity bill that your giant 65" TV had run up.

But the TV itself? It's just sitting there. Dark and Quiet.

Same thing happens when we die. We just go dark. But the effects of our previous existence linger on through others.

After all, we are just a bunch of biomechanical parts! Start saving for that hip replacement now. We'll all need help to keep the lights on just a little longer.

After I die, my dead body starts to decompose while bugs and worms eat at it and years later my remains start to turn into dust.

What proof do you have that there is an afterlife? Do you have physical proof of an afterlife? I am not talking about hear say.

How a dead man can think? It is all over for him. Had he knew what would have to happen after death, he would have manipulated something beneficial to him, as is the nature of the human being.

lol, nothing, you just stop thinking. so you don't even know you're dead. and then bacteria eat your body. unless you get mummified. which is pretty cool. i'm donating all my organs to science and getting mummified after i die so some kid 2 thousand years later can dig up my body and wonder what kind of society i lived in.

My soul dies with my body. Body rots over the years (longer if embalmed). Simple as that, for myself. :-)
