Sometimes it is more a case of losing fat and gaining muscle tone, so your weight will not necessarily drop, but your body will end up in better shape. This is due to the fact that muscle is heavier than fat.
Try starting with some gentle exercise and cutting out fatty foods, and build from there. Jogging is always a good option, and swimming uses lots of different muscle groups simultaniously, this is conjunction with a healthy diet shold start you on the right tracks, then once your body is used to exercising again, it may be worth going to a gym and asking some professionals what the best repitition exercises are to build muscle tone is your desired areas.
Good luck and enjoy it.

for toned slim muscles you should do long repetitions of the same exercise using less weight...for example 15-20 repetitions of one exercise 3-4 (sets) times (wait 20-30 seconds between each set)....you should get a burning sensation (using weight lifting tools and other body exercises)...for muscles which "grow" (more the male weightlifting type muscles - toned but bigger - of course you will transform the fat into muscles too) you should do short repetitions with a LOT of weight and REALLY avoid the burning sensation...for example 10 repetitions 4 times...and wait a bit longer between each set! Try to make yourself a program and really stick to it....make sure you do it at least 3 times per week (ideally at least 5) for results that last (only problem is you will have to continue because as soon as you stop exercising all the muscles will turn back into fat) but as you exercise your metabolism will speed up...and also help loose weight.
p.s. and dont forget proteins (you can even buy the "special" proteins in a sports shop...
p.s 2 Im not a crazy weightlifting woman just going out with (actually married) a crazy sports guy....
Its also important to do some vascular exercises but i would not waste to much time on it...you loose fat and weight faster and more easily using weights (for the whole body) but it is important to do some vascular activity (for example running or cycling) for your health.
Also i would advice you to do some kind of heart test before to know your limits...because exercising too much can somtimes be harmful...and perhaps some exercises may or may not be suitable for you if you have for example a back problem or knee problem...
good luck!!! also I think that perhaps motivation is just as important (my dad is about 58 and started doing weightlifting about 2 years ago...he really lost a lot of weight and is looking much more fit...

properly the most proper element to do is to do a mixture of cardio activities and muscle gaining activities. Going to an section fitness center will be a good suggestion. Taking supplementations won't be able to continuously be a assure. conserving a healthful diet ingredients helps too.

To be really honest, are you fit enough lose that much weight in such a short period of time? If so.....I would use Jenny Craig..so u can be monitored..do NOT starve yourself. I recommend to take vitamins and then prepare yourself to walk two hours a day! I know..I lost over 37 lbs in 6 Weeks doing this. Also, do NOT eat anything after 6 p.m. and no liquids after 8 p.m. ~ if you MUST munch, make it carrot strips and such..NO CHEATING! I did this and it worked like magic...those around me could See the immediate difference within two plus weeks, after the body, mine that is, got use to it, the lbs were simply melting off of me! Best of luck..oh and if you do NOT want to try Jenny Craig..it is one of many, though I DO recommend a weigh in even perhaps with a doctor!!!!!!!!! BTW I am 52.....

first focus on buring the weight once you have gotten you weight to a substancial level begin setting yourself on a set calorie diet. Something that won't malnurish you but, won't hinder your progress. walking and simple weight training like arm curls and dumbell workouts are a good start. Don't go to the gym and expect to see results in hours its gonna take weeks. Food you want to stay away from is any really starchy high carbohydrate foods. Stick to you protiens but give a good mix of carbos every now and then.
but like i said first work on getting you body back into a condition its ready for a physical work out and start out slow.
i walk with my dad (55) and we hit the gym twice a week he's lowered his colestrol level 15 points and has lost 23 lbs we've been doing this for 3 months now

sorry you can not. muscle is energetically expensive to build so you need to increse your food intake. also your age will make it near impossible to put on any real gains. concentrate on losing fat just now then bulk up slowly with high carb/protien food. because of your age it is best to ignore training routines you find online or in mags as they are aimed at teens and early 20s often written by guys pumped of steroids or geneticaly gifted. a QUALIFIED trainer will put you on a course suitable for your needs and which fits around your lifestyle

Eat 6 meals a day with one portion of lean meat (protien) like chicken breast, or lean beef, about the size of a deck of cards and one portion of complex carbs (brown rice) the size of your fist. Lots of green vegies.
Lift heavy weights 3 times a week. Cardio 3 times a week 20 min each.

53 year old should know how to spell.
If not knowing how to spell, use "Check Spelling" button.
Whether you lose or gain weight when you add muscle depends on how much fat you're burning, most likely to lose weight if very fat to start with.
