Depends what the act of kindness is, if it seems something completely out of the ordinary acts especially from them, then perhaps they are either trying to change their ways, or they want something either now or later. Sometimes people are nice for no reason and people are always suspicious of their motives, maybe you should just appreciate whatever it is they are trying to do, and if it turns out that they do want something in return, and if its in your power to give it (and it doesnt go against anything you stand for) then you should do it anyway, since afterall they are family. Also sometimes people are nice because it benefits them in some way, but the philiosophy i live by, is be nice, not because you expect something in return, but because you are nice anyway and you want help. Kindness goes a long way.

it is undoubtedly scary. Do not expect an act of kindness from any body. In this selfish and self centred world no one showers with kindness unless there is some selfish motive behind the same.
Unfortunately, in this world for every good thing done much greater is the expectation from the person who does good thing

usually when family help out its a price to pay, an later they will remind you of all they done for you, but there is close family real families as i call it, that do do things out of kindness. but it better be a family like the waltons are your in big trouble.

well, my crazy aunt ho hates me brought me a pie one time. I thanked her and acted very happy that she would think of me, which i was but I threw it out because i thought she may have spat in it or even like peed in it!
