Atlantis is the island of Santorini in the Aegean Sea.
It was originally a city built on a volcanic island ... until the volcano exploded in one of the largest eruptions in human history. The resulting tidal wave also devastated many of the islands and coastal areas surrounding the Mediterranean.
The common idea of Atlantis as a continent in the Atlantic is the result of mistranslations from the ancient Egyptian where PLATO
(not Aristotle) learned of the island.

I don't know whether Aristotle said or not, but it a well known fact every Hindu knows. The Dwaraka Nagary was established near the present day Gujarat and Kutchch States Area at the sea shore. It sank after Lord Krishna's heavenly abode.
