Sleep apnea left untreated can cause permanent heart damage.
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea after having a sleep study done, and now I sleep with a cpap (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) machine, I love it because I got much better restful sleep.

It sounds like you are suffering from (sleep apnea), that is where people stop breathing in their sleep! Years ago when a baby died in their sleep, they called it: crib death and didn't really know what happened or why, but now days, they realize the babies had sleep apnea and now they are being put on a breathing apparatus and an alarm system. Adults get this too! You must see your doctor about this problem. It is not that deadly in adults, because while you sleep, your body will gag you awake as it is fighting to breath, however you should still see a doctor, they now have some kind of treatments for sleep apnea and a doctor can really help! Good Luck!

I work in a sleep lab, and there is a condition called "sleep apnea". Apnea means to stop breathing. What happens is when you fall asleep your throat muscles relax too much and cause you to have pauses in your breathing. Luckily, when your brain senses the oxygen decreasing, it will wake you. The problem is you will wake feeling tired, also there are health consequences like high blood pressure from untreated sleep apnea. There is a very effective treatment called "CPAP". It's a little mask you wear at night that is hooked to a quiet bedside pump that delivers a gentle pressure of air to "splint" your airway open.
You need to talk to you doctor, get an order for a painles sleep study (which is covered by most insurances) and then if you are found to have sleep apnea, they willorder the equipment for your home.
Good luck!

Are you overweight? This could be obstructive sleep apnea if you are... Even if you aren't overweight this is something that you really should see your doctor about. They will refer you to do a sleep study where you will go to a clinic and sleep there hooked up some stuff so that they can monitor you and determine exactly what is going on. If it is sleep apnea they will likely suggest using a CPAP machine which is something like a mask that you wear at night and it keeps your airway open. Another thing that they will suggest if you are overweight is that you lose weight...this will cure sleep apnea.

You have a condition called sleep apnea. There are several different causes for it; you need to be seen by a doctor.
Info here:

The usual treatment is a C-Pap machine, it's a mask attached to a machine that you wear at night; it forces air into your lungs when you don't breathe.

You should definitely get checked out for sleep apnea. If you are diagnosed with it you may have to go in for a sleep study but it would certainly be worth it. You cannot continue living like this, possibly even in the literal sense. Please go get medical attention asap.

Get a sleep study done. You might need to sleep with a cpap machine in order to keep breathing while you sleep. God bless.
