Actually, it is the "c" that could be replaced by "k".

"A Plan for the Improvement of English Spelling
-M. J. Shields*

For example, in Year 1 that useless letter "c" would be dropped to be replased either by "k" or "s", and likewise "x" would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which "c" would be retained would be the "ch" formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might reform "w" spelling, so that "which" and "one" would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish "y" replasing it with "i" and Iear 4 might fiks the "g/j" anomali wonse and for all.
Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants. Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez "c", "y" and "x" -- bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez -- tu riplais "ch", "sh", and "th" rispektivli.
Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld."

Let's leave the poor letter alone. What'd he ever do to you?

Rubbish!!

What sort of 'mind' (using the term very loosely..!) could think up such a pathetic notion???
; )

To quote YOU - "The earliest and most fundamental concept of intelligence is learning to spell."
SO STOP MOANING!! YOU MUST ALREADY KNOW HOW TO SPELL, SO JUST GET ON WITH IT!!!
There's NO point changing the spelling of half the words in the English language ... you'd just have to start learning all over again! And you might have to call people 'nucleheads' - or would that be 'nuccleheads'...??!

Well it may be useless in English and I have thought so myself on several occasions, like when I was still at school and couldn't spell. But in other languages it is very important, like in Afrikaans it is substituted for c, which makes c kinda useless. Afrikaans is one of South Africa's 11 official languages and some of the other South African languages use k more than c. Which brings me to the question that if so many other languages depend on k, like Dutch, Xhosa, Zulu, Afrikaans and more....is c not the letter you should be asking about?

The letter K is not useless. There are plenty of words with it where the K is a main letter. Such as Kitchen, Kidney, Kin, Kind, Kinetic, etc. I like the letter K.

Not for the girls with the names Kristy, Kathy, Kris, Khristie, Kristi and the boys with the names Kevin, Keith, Kent, Ken and all the other "K" names that I haven't mentioned.

Actually, it's the 'c'. K never becomes soft, and so can be put before 'i' and 'e', whereas 'c' can't. And, where a soft 'c' is used, you can use the 's'. BUT... 'ch' is needed. 'Kh' is the hard sound, like loch. 'Sh' is, well, soft, 'shoot'. 'Ch' is needed for 'church' and the other mid-range sounds like that.
