It has been proven on majority of Singaporeans are not courteous at all.
I think it all began in school and the society. They have been taught to think that they have to be NUMBER ONE in everything. Singapore is a small country and has something to prove to the world. It's all about me, me, me. Don't care what people think as long as you come out to be number one. This mentality is torturing the society. It also begins in parenting skills. I think stress plays a part too.
I stress that not all Singaporeans are discourteous, but it makes you think about why the government has to implement campaigns to be more courteous.
My b/f is from NY and he usually holds the door for people and he hardly hears a 'thank you'. Shame on you Singaporeans!

I live in Singapore since over a year now. I found Singaporeans are discourteous and only think about themselves, the worst thing that they act dumb in common sense situation like when you enter a lift but there is a person standing near the door, so he/she should move to give space for you but they won t move except you asked hhhhh. there are friendly and nice Singaporeans indeed but very few.

Singaporeans are not discourteous. I am an American who has been living in Singapore for more than a year now and find them to be quite polite on most occassions!

i guess it depends on how u define discourteous..
i'm singaporean but i think i'm a friendly bunch...
don't judge a whole country based on 1 person.. just like they say.. don't judge australia by how they speak just because u see Steve Irwin (The Croc Hunter) on TV...

I dont think so.. it depend on who they are discourteous to.
They respect the elderly more than anyone
they love the unfortunate more
Look at the their goverment, they pay more attention to the poor
Maybe they discourteous to those 'pain in the ***'

Because the Singapore government forgot to set a Polite 2010 plan to make Singapore the "Courtesy Hub" of Asia. :)
