If you are asking about a child that you are the guardian of, you might want to look at the long term side effects of ritalin. Things like anxiety, depression, mood disorders and addiction are known effects of ritalin. Drug abuse is definitely a risk, not only abuse of the medication and trust me it is something that will get a person high, but abuse of other drugs in the future.

No one should put a child on ritalin just to calm them down and sedate them!

Giving a child with add a coffee bean in the morning and during the day may have the same effects of ritalin without the problems of such a harmful drug.

First, you should avoid stimulation to the child. And, our greatest concern for these children is nutrition so we will give them foods that can be eaten on the run (or fingerfoods). Always promote saftey to the child. Limit caffeine containing foods. And administer Ritalin (Methylphenidate) as ordered

If your speaking about a child i say ALL children suffer from it. that's just how they are, think back when you were a kid did you always listen 100% I'm sure you didn't.. i don't believe in childhood drugging (Ritalin and such) if your child is to rambunctious try a video game, game boy .. drawing graphics on the computer.. something where he is using his mind and hands.. works great for my kids and gives me the in between their tearing up the house to clean .. :-p

Stimulants such as ritalin and strattera accompanied by proper behavior therapy. As the the individual's condition begins to improve slowly reduce the dosage to nil because he/she might end up to be overly dependent on it.

Concerta (which is a longer lasting Ritalin) combined with behavior modification and parent training. Anything else has been proven time and time again not to be effective.
Good luck!

Finding something to do with that extra energy. some have found hobbies like art, painting, building, and ect... people with that condition are recorded to be very academic when they arre given a true chance they learn quickly, they just need something to help channel all that extra energy.

not gving him any attention at all. i had a friend who had the same disease. we ostracized him.

we made him realize that the world doesnt only revolve on his.

though inhumane, doing a little cruelty can make sense.
