ulcerative colitis - chronic disease of unknown cause, characterized by ulceration of the colon and rectum with bleeding, mucosal crypt abscesses, and inflammatory pseudopolyps, often causing anemia, hypoproteinemia, and electrolyte imbalance.

How do you not know that and you've had it for 5 years and taken medicine for it. And blood in your stools is not a good sign at all. You need to get more of your medicine. Its a sign that you still have that problem.

Ulcerative collitis is inflamation of the colon, with ulcers ( severe irritation spots in the intestine that can bleed occassionally. You may need to make an appointment for a follow up colonoscopy,(looking at the condition with a camera,) I would see a doctor soon. I work in surgery for 19 years so I am very familiar with this procedure.
