How you spell on here is exactly how you talk in real life. If you can't make yourself understood to others, why should anyone waste their time listening to what you have to say?
You will find as you grow older, people will judge you on your grammar and vocabulary. Speaking (or writing) poorly will give others the impression you are less than intelligent.
You say "it's not like I'm typing an essay!!", well, you're being graded on your spelling or speaking every day and for the rest of your life. Would you talk shizzit at a job interview? You have a killer in your home, he's closing in, you call 9-1-1 and can't make yourself understood, you're gonna be another statistic.
People will respect you if you have respect for your language. That includes spelling, grammar and vocab. The best piece of advice I can give you is READ BOOKS. NOT magazines, NOT comics, read real books. You will learn how to speak (and spell) well and correctly.

No, I don't hate it when people here get so uptight about spelling. I agree 100% with what Bert T. wrote.
I'll add that what and how you write helps you to organize and complete your thoughts. Of course, that doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't have fun. But if you're asking a question and you want an answer, shouldn't you do your best to communicate that question in as clear (and succinct) a manner as possible? So that you can receive (hopefully) intelligent answers?

Yep. I think people overreact a bit over it. Ok, some questions here have such horrible spelling that it's hard or even impossible to understand them, but apart from that, I don't think it should be such a big deal. It's quite disappointing and silly when people ignore the content of a question and instead just rant about grammar and spelling mistakes in it when the question is still clear. Not everyone has perfect knowledge of English and it's not nice to use that against them to treat them like idiots.

I'm sorry Hon, but I am one of them, as I am seeing a devolution of the English language, and that is why you are provided with the "Check Spelling" thing on the upper right of the box. Not everybody writes and reads in this so-called computer short-hand, and if we all use the same language, i.e. proper English, then we will understand each other. It's also kind of lazy to type that way don't you think?

I must admit, I am a spell check psycho. I don't even know why, it's like, you've been provided a service, FOR FREE that enables you to spell every word properly, helping everybody to be able to understand what you are trying to say....most of the time I let it slide but I do notice it, occasionally, if it's really bad then I'll make a comment simply because I can't not make one. Sorry if I ever targeted you. No offense implied, I'm just kind of anal retentive about it.

The problem is, the lousy spelling makes you look like an idiot. And, it has the side effect of creeping into the rest of your communication...so some day, you may very well be writing an essay and forget how to spell.
Grow up, use proper spelling and grammar...

To the stupid person who asked this question. Do you not realize that the United States is so far behind other countries when it comes to education, we need to write everything correctly? The fact that you asked that question tells me you probably live in a trailer park and your mother and father is also your brother and sister, and your aunt and uncle. Now get off the internet, pick up a book, and learn something. THIS HAS BEEN A PUBLC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT.

It depends on how bad the typing is. If someone can't write a coherent sentence, I can't help but think they might make better use of their time reading a book or going to school.

No, I don't hate it. In fact, I hate it when people can't spell properly. It worries me to think that soon we will have a world full of idiots in charge of everything!
