It is mostly a matter of breeding and training. Go to a reputable breeder that only breeds dogs with full health testing and that have a conformation or working title. They should be family raised rather than kennel and hopefully already started on socialization and potty training. I also like English Mastiffs if you want a dog that is intimidating and protective but not aggressive. Find some good obedience classes as large breed pups grow very fast and you need to be in control from the start I really don't suggest ever beating your dog it can cause problems that may take a while to surface. He might be fine but why risk it with a dog that is going to be 130lbs or more. I bet your national kennel club has a link to local training clubs.

It would depend on the dog's training, breeding, and enviroment, as well as the dog's gender. Female dogs are more aggresive than male dogs, but at times male dogs can be just as protective and aggressive as female dogs. If a dog is well trained to be a gurad dog, then no matter what breed it is, it will protect it's territory, especially if it is in thier breeding. Both german shepards and rottweilers have protectivness and guarding bred into thier genetic structure. The enviroment makes a difference because if the dog grows up in a good enviroment, thaen it is going to be more protective of its territory than it would be otherwise. I hope this answers your question.

Well keep in mind what German Shepards were bread for. ARMY use. Rotties, eh... the guy above me with the Pitt Bull thing. Dude no.

Plus alot of ti comes down to training and discipline with the animal. Expecting the dog to be the pyscho robot guard isn't going to happen.

If you ask me a rottweiler is better, not only is it a big bulky dog,but it's bite is about 320 pound per square inch.So if you train it right it can guard you at night. So if a burglar comes best of luck to him.

Go here for an awesome dog training program http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?8J1H

Since it is obvious that you do not have a clue about obedience training, your services should be for free. You cannot train even an adult dog for 8 hours a day. About the most that can be done at any one time is 10 - 20 minutes and that is with an adult dog and not a puppy. The attention span on this baby is extremely short and training session should be no more than 10 minutes and twice a day. Additionally, there isn t going to be much learned if you will only be training for 5 days. Obedience training is cumulative and is done over a much longer period of at least several weeks to several months.
What you can charge is determined by your experience, reputation, and accomplishments and in a case like this, should also include guaranteed expectations. Just working with dogs over several years, is not the experience that is necessary to be a dog trainer. There are too many people who are putting that title to their name and fleecing the public. Don t be one of them.

The best guard dog, EVER, is the Great Pyrenees. Gentle, kind, loving with people, especially children, absolutely VICIOUS with other dogs, coyotes, bears, wolves, and foxes.
