It could be that she hears either something in the ceiling or something is attracting her attention that only she can see, if you have another animal bring it in when she does this, and see if that animal also sees it or looks toward the corner, if so you have a spirit of some sort in your house, but I wouldn't worry about it but keep an eye on this behavior, if I was you. It doesn't seem to be scaring the cat so don't let it bother you too much. So all you can do is chill out for now!!!!!!!!!!!!...........

Trust me it is probably not retarded...... It probably see something you cannot...or hears something you cannot. I have even had my cats try to play with the dust particles you see when the curtain is open and the sunlight is streaming in. They just have an absolutely insatible curiousity about things...which leads us to the saying "Curiosity killed the cat". Have fun watching this particular habit as it may lead to the cat catching bigger prey as spiders, moths, and such. Trust me this is a good thing.

No it's not retarded. Probably sees things flying around, like gnats!
My cat finds things I don't see til he gets them!
Maybe even reflection of some light!
Unless he's got dust in his eye, just joshing!

OMG! my cat does the same thing! it freaks me out. its because it sees a ghost or a deemon or somthing of the sort. i usually leave the room emmediatly because i know there some presence in there.
ooh sory for scaring you like that! but look at it this way, at least with ur cat you can actually know if there is a gohst or not! use this for ur benefit!

Have u ever thought that maybe this cat is seeing something that u can't. Like maybe your guarding angel .I wouldn't really worry unless it starts going crazy or something.

my cat does this too. we live in an apt and its either 2 reasons she does it, she's either looking for a bug/fly or she hears noises upstairs.
