I don't believe so at all. It is based primarily on religious beliefs, and there is nothing to prove their is life after death anyway, not to offend anyone. The bible is a very moral book, but it still isn't proof. However, I could very easily be wrong. Mine is only a belief

Yes. They have been existed since long ago when people started worship idols. Look at what the bible says about them...

Leviticus 19:31
" 'Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God."

Deuteronomy 18
Detestable Practices
9 When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in [a] the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God.

2 Kings 21:6
He sacrificed his own son in the fire, practiced sorcery and divination, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking Him to anger.

Isaiah 8
19 When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? 20 To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. 21 Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. 22 Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.

2 Kings 23:24
Furthermore, Josiah got rid of the mediums and spiritists, the household gods, the idols and all the other detestable things seen in Judah and Jerusalem. This he did to fulfill the requirements of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had discovered in the temple of the LORD.

1 Chronicles 10:13
Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance

I believe it's the othere way around. The spirits communicate with the living. If a person is open and has the heart, spirit, and soul, the spirit will communicate. I don't believe that a person can specifically ask for one or another spirit, to talk to them. They are brought to them for a specific purpose. If it's to be, then it will be. You may be surprised at how your mom contacts you. It may be in a way that you least expect. It may be tomorrow, it may be a year from now. Your mom will know when you're ready. Don't look for it. You'll recognize it, at the time you need too. Don't push it. Just accept her being gone from the physical. Know that she's watching, and knows.

The jury is still out on that one: I have never talked to anyone who has died.If you read the Bible when God withdrew his spirit from King Saul,Saul went to a Medium, and he asked her to summon the spirit of one of the Prophets: He wanted her to ask the prophets sport if he would win the battle. She did,and the prophet told her, this man is King Saul who has ordered all fortune tellers be killed:The spirit of the prophet told Saul,no you will loose the battle, because God has withdrawn his spirit from you. She grew very upset, and asked him,why did you trick me,were you looking for a reason to kill me?

No. No one can communicate with the dead. There are people who conjure up demons pretending to be a dead person. Careful going there, its all demonic there.

when you die you can not harm anyone. they work for the devil. be careful. john edwards or any one else is just a fool. no one and I mean no one can speak to the dead. they are playing with your minds. they are getting people to spend money to listen to lies. remember what happened to ms. cleo. she is now in jail for asking you questions and how she lied to people just to get information out of you. she knew nothing about you and all of a sudden because u answered questions, she knew everything about you. don't believe anything they say.

Of course there are those that can communicate with what you call the "dead". We don't die but that part of us that can out-of-body travel and remote view goes on. No one ever 'dies'.
