how do i break open a soft boiled egg?

While it really doesn't matter which end, most people open the smaller one just because having the wider part down seems more like a bowl.

As for opening it, you can cut the top off with a knife or scissors.

If you want to get fancy and spend money: Egg cups will hold the egg upright and look pretty.Then there are fancy scissors with a circular opening that are sold in some gourmet shops specially designed to cut the top off evenly, which almost never happens with the usual methods.

Depends.

If you are going to eat ti from the shell, using an egg cup, you should rest it on the larger end because it will fit better and will be more stable.

In this case use a spoon to hit it gently to break just a small part of it.

If you are going to eat it in any other fashion, it doesn't matter how you break it, because you are going to eat it outside the shell anyway.

put your soft boiled egg in an egg cup.they kinda look like an eye wash glass but only bigger.lightly tap the narrow end off your egg with a dull knife,a dull knife make a better crack then a sharp one .the top should break off like a little cap,pepper then enjoy
