Yes you can. All debit cards are used at any retail store that takes credit cards...Wal-mart etc... I use mine all of the time!
I drove a semi truck over the road... and I never had a problem. I always used it.
The answers you had before are true about your debit being straight from your bank account. But, that wasn't your question, was it?.... I believe you know that!
There was an answer above about being careful about giving your card number out... this is true!! But, most of the websites now have SSL Secure Lock Layer ... web pages that are coded and very safe as compared to a few years ago! Don't freak out because they scare you from buying on the net!
I have a web based business and I use Paypal for all of my received payments... Paypal is one of the highest ranking companies on the net for online payment options.. So , in my case you would not have to worry as much as you would if you bought from a shady store front! ... I know that wasn't your question either but, I don't want you or anyone else to think that buying online is as dangerous as they say. My advise (always) is to know who you are dealing with before you buy from them!!!
Read there privacy policies and read the policies from their partners like Paypal.
You can always use your debit card like a credit card... My bank has a charge for using the card as a debit card. My bank told me to use the card as a credit card on all of my purchases to avoid any charges! My advise would be to check with your bank and see what they say about charges used as a debit or credit.
No prob with card...........Happy Shopping. : )
Read my privacy policy ( link ) and check out the Paypal policy link off of my statement page to find out more... http://www.mygiftshopper.com/

Yes, if it has a VISA or Mastercard logo you should be able to purchase anything you would like. Debit cards with logos are the same as credit cards to the online merchant community.
The only place you might have a problem using a debit card online are rental car agencies....most will not accept debit cards online or in person.
Have fun shopping!

My Visa debit card can be used either way but the funds still come out of my checking account. Some stores are behind on the debit card thing even still. At times the store wouldn't accept my debit card as a debit but when I used the same (debit) card and told the cashier credit, it went thru.

Yes you can, but don't. Debit cards are linked directly to your bank accounts. Should you be the target of fraud, you are basically sh** out of luck. You don't have the same protections. Additionally, if the vendor you are using sends you garbage or tries to defraud you in another manner, you have recourse with a credit card (the credit card company can cancel the charge and can ban a merchant from using a Visa or MC symboled card).
I used my credit card for all purchases, and once I receive what I expected, I pay off the bill.

Some sites accept them, some do not. You just have to try.
That said, you are much safer using a credit card. There are protections against fraud and unauthorized use on credit cards that do not apply to debit cards. Also, if someone gets hold of your debit card account number, they can drain your bank account. That can't happen with a credit card.

A debit card means the money will be taken from your bank account. It should work online, however, I would not risk using a debit card, attached to my bank account, online. There is too much internet theft. Be careful.
Treat a debit card the same as CASH!

Yes, you can... especially helps if it's issued by someone like VISA.
They take cash directly from your bank account to pay, so it's better than a credit card as you don't get screwed by some of the dirty tricks the card companies pay, as explained here:
http://www.fool.com/ccc/secrets/secrets04.htm
Also it helps if you have an OVERDRAFT facility (a form of credit) as a safety net in case you spend more than you have in your account - but remember, it's an overdraft LIMIT...... NOT a TARGET.

Absolutely, as long as the card is visa/mastercard/etc based. I quite often use my debit card as credit.. and it is not only convenient, but tends to have more security due to the fraud protection on most cards.
