A more interesting question would be what Service would you be in - from a military POV rather political like most answers here so far.

I'd be in the US Air Force - somewhere in Europe. Better supplied, well trained, safer than most others. Also the uniform was cool and the pay was good, so you had the pick of the laydeeeeeessss!!!

Last place to be would in the Red Army infantry! Treated like crap, considered to be expendible, shot at by their own side (13,000 Red Army troops were shot by their own military authorities during WW2!!)

One of the tankers of Tiger #1331 and later #S21 then #205 and finally #007, LSSAH, under command of Michael Wittman esp. at the 3rd Battle of Kharkov and Normandy.

He was the most successful tanker ace of World War II. His friends said that Michael Wittmann was quiet man even during combat and that he had 6th sense, to know where and how to engage the enemy. Wittmann commanded excellent crews, who were able to fully cooperate with him and anticipated his orders. Wittmann was highly admired by his comrades and very highly thought of by his superiors. Michael Wittmann represents a real hero who fought to the bitter end for his Fatherland....all political and racial ideologies aside.

No doubt, I'd ally myself with the Allies, which consisted of Great Britain, France, United States, and partly Russia. Because Hitler and his Nazi Regime was on a role to transform the entire world to his standards, thousands of people began to resist the idea of pure dominance by one man.

This is why Great Britain and France responded first to Germany, who allegedly broke treaty guidelines and raided Austria and Poland.

The reason why I'd side with the Allies is because I believe every country should have the opportunity to create their OWN kind of government and culture. Whether it consists of democracy, republic, or even a monarchy, every nation involved who FOUGHT the Axis Powers believed that Hitler was becoming a world threat and would fight at all costs.

I would have to say the Allies side. It would be quite the thing back then to have all sorts of other countries along side yours participating in the Last Great War! It would be cool liberating towns in France and Holland with people dancing in the streets and resistance fighters coming out to greet you.

Too bad it isn't like that anymore. Times have changed, and people it seems were happier back then when you freed them from tyranny....
