He was in Afganistan, and he died today in a hostile firing. She just found out when they came to her door. She is a good Christian girl who has brought me closer to Christ. What's a good prayer for her and her husband? She also is 22, with two kids, 11months, and 3 yrs.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths
of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow
of death I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod
and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of
mine enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup
runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days
of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Here is a quick prayer.

For a Deceased Man
INCLINE Thine ear, O Lord, unto our prayers, wherein we humbly pray Thee to show Thy mercy upon the soul of Thy servant N., whom Thou hast commanded to pass out of this world, that Thou wouldst place him in the region of peace and light, and bid him be a partaker with Thy Saints. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

I do not know your religious background. However, prayers for the repose of his soul would be in order. If you are a Catholic/Orthodox specific prayers for the dead would be in order along with requesting a Mass/Divine Liturgy for the dead. If you are a Prot. some faiths will remember the dead in their Sunday services/prayers at request (some do flowers in the sanctuary "in remembrance" and that would be fitting).

Personally, I would highly recommend a Rosary meditating on the sorrowful or glorious mysteries. If that is not your thing, then simply pray what seems fitting.

For your friend, I would suggest prayer and being absolutely steadfast and there for her during her time of need. Prayer is important, but she will need people who are there for her and calm and reassuring (even if you do not feel very reassuring).

I am terribly sorry for the loss. Give her my condolences and tell her how very proud I am of her husband for serving this country during its time of need.
