Clutter is your enemy, hehehe... so, get rid of duplicate items, put everything away when not being used, etc.
For storage, look for stackable items, bags that you can press the air out of, etc. Extra wire racks can help with with storage inside a cabinet too.
While the trailer itself may be only 8.5 x 27, don't forget the outside! You didnt say if this trailer was parked, or on the move, but you can always look at storage outside the trailer, whether it be a shed, or toolboxes, etc.
I spent several years as an 'on the road' contractor.... you'd be surprised at what all you can learn to do without, lol, and just how much you can store in containers, if you put your mind to it.

seriously, what we did-we had an airstream trailer while we were remodeling our home. We decided to remove the kitchen and everything that was nailed down, until left with an empty shell. It didnt even take more than a day to do this, then we recarpeted the floor, painted the walls and the place felt huge! we brought in a futon, a small table and mini fridge. Asthetically, very pleasing, better than grimy 70's trailer-faux wood. Made it alot easier to spend time in. plenty of storage room!

Rent an 18 foot trailer for three months an when you move back into your 27 footer, it will seem like a mansion. When you live in a trailer that size, never eat sauerkraut and drink dark beer.
I live in the Philippines and here 20 people could live in the space of 8X27. Really !

Man, the only trick that will work is having a garage sale and seriously pruning your belongings. You have to be ruthless. You need to look at your belongings and think, "I am spending money on rent to house these things, and money in work hours dusting them. Are they really worth it?" Clean spaces and empty surfaces are the only things that look good in tight spaces. Beyond that, choose a light color scheme with only one or two accent colors to reduce visual clutter, and carry the same main color throughout the trailer. Make it a light color. No afghans or walls of family photos. If you must crochet, give your handiwork away, and put most family photos in a nice simple album or photo box. Good luck.
