The long straight drive.
Why? I'm not a pro. I play for fun and in the occasional scramble.
How do you feel walking 20 yards to whack your second shot after worm-burning your drive up to (but not past) the ladies tee? Or how about yelling "Nooooo!" as you watch a high slice fly off into the distance O.B. and another lost ball. Compare that to missing a 2 foot putt? Sure, "drive for show and putt for dough" but I sure feel a lot better driving for show. Which shot do you remember the most as you drive home... the 280 yard tee shot smoked right down the middle on the par 5 or the 20 foot luck-@ss putt?
Lastly, If people know you smack a consistent long-ball, you'll see plenty of best ball scramble invitations.

I prefer the "or less" part of the question. My drives are rarely straight to begin with, I'm always punching out from the rough (that's 2), the green in 3, so a two putt is either par or 1 over. After all is said and done, it works out to a game of bogey golf for me; +18.

I would take the long straight drive, even though a six inch putt counts the same as a long straight drive.

I'd say its best to have a predictable drive and be able to putt in 2 or less. You should never have to 3 putt (unless you're at Winged Foot, I guess). You'll be able to knock off more strokes on the putting green than with your driver.

think about it on a round of golf you maybe use you driver 13 or 14 times you use your putter (2 strokes per hole) 36 times. If you can work on anything to lower your score it would be putting if you are 3 putting a lot that's a lot of strokes to be giving away. 3 putts are no good. A bad tee shot may cost you a stroke or 2 but if your a good putter it may only cost you 1

Long straight drives because then its easier to chip up onto the green.
