I am travelling in France, Italy and Spain from July 17th to Agust 17th, i was wondering if i should book hostels ahead of time or can i wait and book the day i arrive to the city. The reason i am asking is becuase i want do not want a rigid schedule to go by and booking ahead of time will set time restraints. Any advice will b great.

Because of your dates (the busiest time in europe for hostels) I would suggest you reserve some of your trip, but not all so that you will have flexibility and some confidence that rooms will be availible. Personaly, I have found that in worse case scenarios, I can just get on a train and sleep if I need to, but that option is not a good one if you want to stay in the city you are at for obvious reasons. I would also say that by booking ahead you will have an address and place to go. One of the side effects of not booking ahead is that you may have to spend a day running around whatever city you are in just to find a place to stay or at the very least spend alot of time on the phone. I realize I am bringing up alot of things, but it is just to highlight the need for a little bit of both worlds both the totally free spirit and the person who has an itenery.

It sounds like you're fairly easy-going so I would wait until you get there, but you're also going at a very busy time of year, so it really just depends on you. Most hostels can give you an idea of how busy they are during that time frame, so perhaps you should book your first night in as many cities as you can, then explore before deciding exactly how long you want to stay, if the hostel can't fit you in, they normally know somewhere that can. I did it flexibly and managed to find accommodation everywhere I went (not always the best, but you just move the next day)

Since it will be peak traveling time, I'd check with the hostels to see if they recommend reserving ahead of time, or how far ahead of time they recommend.

Use O2 it is in most countries out there and relatively cheap too.. Not 100% sure on Slovenia, but it will work in Slovakia, Czech republic, Poland, Ukraine and others in that region
