Is this something you worry about daily? Most people never experience violence in their lifetime.

K. I'm assuming you get this from "turn the other cheek." This does not refer to letting yourself get beat up for no reason. It's more of a mindset relating to spiritual persecution. Really it's a metaphor for a passive-aggressive approach to adversity. Instead of killing the guy that opposes your views or "hate those that hate you"-Muslim Doctrine, it's a loving attempt at dealing with disagreement.

When someone strikes you on the right cheek (most people being right handed) it is not a deadly attack but literally a backhanded attack, an insult. When someone strikes you on the left cheek with their right hand, it is more likely that they mean it as an actual attack of physical harm. When Jesus said to offer them your left cheek as well, he meant to wait to see whether they intended an actual, physical attack. We should not jump off the handle and respond with violence to things that were only intended to be insults.
If someone attacks us physically, we always have the right to defend ourselves. When the Roman Centurion came to Jesus, Jesus did not suggest that the man give up his military career (by way of repentance) before He would heal the man's servant; and, in fact, Jesus even commended the man on his faith. The apostle Paul in Romans speaks of the authority to apply corporal punishment, up to and including capital punishment, as an appointment from God.

He did perfect Kung fu!
Turn the other cheek when someone is striking makes the blow softer because you are moving the target away from his punch.
Self defense is good - it is that you are to supposed to extend thee length of th fight just to hurt the other.

Of course it's not true. The Bible is just a collection of ancient myths, legends, and religio-political ramblings. Some of it makes sense, but much of it just plain asinine.

two totally different things.... kung fu and the Bible. Jesus taught that violence is not the answer, tis true, but Christians aren't meant to be doormats, nor are they to incite violence.

what if defending your flesh means offending god's spirit?
resist not evil. turn the other cheek. It makes the enemy furious, heaps coals of fire on his head.
