The same as is on the photo page,

Name, date of birth, place of birth, nationality, passport number etc. It is to check that the passport isn't faked. All European passports have this information stored.

Do you probably mean the new biometric passport? If so, it's supposed to have a chip with the holder’s facial biometric (facial measurements and characteristics, fingerprints and iris scans). The chip will store the passport holder’s digital photo and other personal details printed on the passport bio-data page. The chip will complement the security features currently inherent in the ‘machine readable zone’ of the passport.

it depends whether you have one of the new micro chipped passports that are randomly being given out. It stores your photo and brings it up when you hand in your boarding card. On the normal passport the information stored is sent to the country you are travelling to before you arrive, when it is swiped at the airport you are travelling from.

As stated in the first answer the chip carries a reproduction of the bio metric page this prevents a fraudulent altering of the details. It should also be added that all regional passports offices are installing readers so that passport holders can check that the details on the chip are correct.
