I think you should try other places, some people will try to make money off of your car and have you change all the tires instead of one. Check out sam's Club or Costco if there is one near you. Sears service center will also give you a better idea of this is true.

The reason tire manufacturers stop making certain tire sizes is because these tires are not as common any more on new cars. What they do is have you put on a different tire size. For instance, 215/70-r14 is your current tire, they might say use a205/70-r14 because this is a more common size. Or they may say use a 225/70-r14 because it will fit on the rim also. Basically, the less common a tire is the more reason for them the discontinue it. Hope this helps.

Try looking online. I bought my tires at discount tire direct. They have very cheap prices for good tires.
Side note: you don't have to go exactly the same size. You can go a little bit wider and it should stretch over and fit safely. Just make sure the last number (R14) is always the same. The numbers stand for : 215 (overall diameter, in relation to the width) / 70 (the size of the profile of the tire) / R14 the size of the Rim.

Perhaps the tire manufacturing company your warranty covers no longer makes the tire size you need. Often times, if a size is unpopular enough, they will cease production. But there are other companies that still do produce it, even if they have become special order items.
215/70 R14 doesn't seem like an exotic sizing to me. Go to another tire dealer--and if nothing else, a dealership that carries your car brand--and see if they give you the same answer.
Sorry about your sidewall damage; that's always unrepairable for passenger car tires. Remember to keep your tires inflated to the pressure recommended in your owner's manual and to check them carefully every time you park it, so you can catch punctures in the tread area before they leak badly and prevent damage to your wheel from running your tires flat.

The 215-70-R14 is not an unusual tire at all. Any given
manufacturer could have stopped making them but that size
is easily found. BFG makes a good tire in that size as do others.

Give a B.F.Goodrich or Goodyear dealer a try. They make up tp 225/70R14. As more newer vehicles come out they are increasing the tire and rims sizes and changing to lower prifile sidewalls to accomadate newer body styles, larger disc brakes etc. There are not as many vehicles that run 14" rims and tires. If the vehicle has 14 inch rims and has disc brakes then it also has the proper rim to use disc brakes or they interfere with the brake calipers.

The tire size P215/70r14 is still being manufactured by several tire companies. Bridgestone Dueler H/T is just the first that springs to mind. Another is the Cooper Classic.
As to nails, screws, etc, welcome to the real world. No tire made (yet) , in that size, on the sidewall,
can withstand a puncture and remain servicable.
