I must admit, I do like pitbulls, and this is coming from someone who has almost been bitten by one. I worked for 2 years as a vet. assistant and we saw LOTS of pitbulls everyday, we even had 5 living in the clinic (pups someone dumped in our parking lot) They were stubborn, protective, but also loving. It takes a strong, strong person to be the owner of a pitbull. I don't just mean strong physically, but emotionally too. Sadly, most pitbull owners just do not qualify to own such a wonderful dog, which is why we see such problems with the breed today. That and idiots fight pitbulls. The only one I have ever had a major problem with is my boyfriend's mother's pitbull. She is mentally unstable for whatever reason, and randomly attacks people she knows. She doesnt attack people who live in the house, but guests she does, even if the previous week she was best buds with them. I'm not sure what is causing it, but I know it could happen with any dog breed, not just a pitbull. I have been bitten, actually bitten, by a little yappy dog, and owners think its just so cute that their little "killer" is so protective. Idiots.

Your statement about people speaking poorly of pitbulls being ignorant just attracted all of those ignorant people to comment. I agree, I was an ignorant person once. I thought pit bulls were bad tempered and you could definitely not trust them with kids. I am so thankful that I am now blessed with a pit. She really is the best dog I have ever had. She has so much character. And for those who think they aren't good around kids, you are wrong. Pits are great with kids. Mine frequents my sister's daycare and is the donkey in the annual Christmas pageant. It's too bad that there are some horrible people out there who shouldn't be allowed to own a dog who are giving pits a bad name. Unfortunately pits have become a trend among "thugs." If anyone doubts that a pit bull can be a great pet, I will gladly introduce you to my Bella. You would love her. Everyone does.

My son was attacked by a 'good natured, trained' pit bull - lived down the street from us for 5 years. My son was riding his bike, as always, each day.. but after 4 years.. this dog, the pitbull, decided to attack.
I have 4 big dogs - my son has been raised with each... he is 10. He, with all witnesses, was just going by the house (he is deaf and does not speak - my son).. and then WHAM.
AM I am dumb? is my son dumb or ignorant? No.. but it is he in the hospital at the Sick children's hospital in Toronto.. one of the best in N. America because of a dog, a vicious dog that should have been with an owner or at the very least chained!!!!) At the time, he was not..
do I have anything bad to say? Yes.. do YOU dare to call me dumb or ignorant? Try me.

The only reason pits are illegal in some areas are because of irresponsible pet owners. Those owners who get any large breed of dog and allow them to get out where they could potentially bite someone. Or the people who get them for "protection" and teach them to be aggressive, or who abuse or just plain neglect them and do not teach them manners or let them socialize or interract with other dogs or humans.
It is not the dogs fault in any single attack case, it is their owners!
I have 14 dogs, chihuahua, chow, shepherds, husky, great pyrs, sheltie, rotts, golden ret, keeshond, and a pit bull. I also have 5 cats that are the bosses of every one of my dogs. All of my dogs get along with each other and other dogs and people because they have been properly handled and trained.

I have three pits and one female Pero de Presa Canario, both these breeds of dogs have got targets on them. The public needs to ignore the media blitzkrieg that has people running scared from a dog that would give its life for its human family.

im glad you love pitbulls but you sound extremely childish. not everyone likes every breed of dogs and thats okay. im a dog lover. i have 6 of my own and i dont expect everyone to love each breed that i have. its called preference. so dont be so rude. and yes, there are alot of people who have bad things to say about pit bulls. especially the mothers of children who have had their faces nearly eaten off by pitbulls. im not saying all pitbulls are bad but yes there are some that are. learn to be logical.

Actually my brother owned one, and they are very lovable dogs. I think they are really cute and pretty. I mean some people may say they are bad to have as a family pet, but in my opinion its all in the way you raise them! I agree with you, I think they are a great pet to have and own
