I am anemic, so I had to learn about all the things that are high in iron...
First of all, reduce your diary intake in the hours before or after eating an iron rich food. Dairly decreases the absorption of iron. Also, increase your vitamin C (I take a Vit C pill with my iron).
Another one: If you couple some lean red meat with iron-rich vegetables, you get more of the iron out of the veggies... There is an amino acid in the meat that maximizes your body's absorption.
Slow Fe iron capsules work very well (best type of iron, least impact on digestive tract). I take one slow fe and two vit C every day. Make sure this is OK with your doctor, because it is dangerous to increase your iron unless you need to.
Iron rich veggies: spinach, raisins, kidney beans, leafy green veggies (chard, collard greens, parsley, mustard greens...), nuts, broccoli, and anything that tastes earthy.
Iron rich Meats: Liver, kidneys, beef, lamb.
By the way, did you know that a documented symptom of low iron/hemoglobin is chewing ice??? I had this insatiable appetite for ice for about six months. I was wondering if I was sexually frustrated and didn't even know it (haha). Well, I Had my annual physical and it turns out I was anemic instead... I have since increased my iron and now I have no more craving for ice!!!

I don't think you can increase the heamoglobin, but what you need to do is to increase the heamoglobin's ability to bind oxygen. Eat iron rich foods, which is red meat in moderation (ostrich is best, but we don't all live in South Africa, do we?) also the green legumes like beans are rich in iron as is the green leafy veggies like spinach. Raisins are also a source of iron, but your best bet would be red meat. Consider taking iron suplements if you're vegetarian like I am.

Liver is really good for that as well as raw onion. My mother had a sickness as a child and she had to eat liver and raw onion. It worked. red or white onion as a sandwich on a good whole grain bread with tomatoes, avocado, sprouts and mayo are great! fresh broccoli is good to. Foods high in iron natural foods are best, but you might want to supplement with a good vitamin to. Good luck. And Liver really isn't that bad fry it with sauteed mushrooms and onions is the best. eat papaya if you need to. Good luck.

Both are good for you, each fruit/vegetable has different vitamins. Thus as more variety, as better. Vegetables have generally less sugar than fruits.

Liver, you can brown it in olive oil with slivers of onions, and slivers of bell pepper ( red and green for color ), just add salt and pepper and serve with pepper bread or wild rice.
