Uhhh, Air Force isn't a 9-5. You are an Airman 24/7.Everyone in the same pay grade gets paid the same. No Matter where you live. Its called base pay. You'll get extra pay depending on cost of living.

Whether you live on or off base you'll have time to spend with your wife. you get 30 days of leave a year. 2.5 days a month. You probably won't get every weekend off......but they do have 3 day weekends and stuff.

You'll have to talk to a recruiter about what kind of vehicles you'll be maintaining. If indeed they have those jobs available when it comes time to garuantee a job for you.

And one more thing. What makes you think you'll be going to California...are you trying to go guard or reserves. If you are planning active duty, you don't get to CHOOSE where you want to go. Unless there is damn good reason why you should be there (medical, taking care of ailing relative). If that were the case no one would be stationed at the crapola bases. You get to REQUEST where you want to get stationed but, they are going to send you where they need you most.

Yes, you get leave time. After hours are yours as well. It all depends on the base that you go to, and how they run it. I don't know about the weekends. You are a soldier, not a prisoner, your free time means that you can leave the base, as long as you come back.

I had more time off than I had at any other job, not sure about mechanics though they'll probably work your a$$ off. Stuff breaks easily.
