Having Epilepsy myself, I can tell you that your sisters problem with insulting family members and then getting defensive is ALL her. It has nothing to do with her having Epilepsy! She must have some issues with the family that she needs to address.

I'm sorry to say that I can not give you a yes or no answer but I can at least give you a few details. I don't know how long you sister has had epilepsy but I myself do have epilepsy and have had it on and off through out the 22 yrs. of my life. First I will say that everyone is different. I don't have the kind of problem she does and no one I know that does. I'm not saying it's not possible. I do have an appointment with my Dr. next Tuesday at UCSF and I can also e-mail him and ask him now so I don't forget. when I see him he can let me know if what you are asking is true or not and get back to you. If you would like you can contact me and ask me any other questions you might have. My E-mail address is: Gwen4402@yahoo.com

I too have epilepsy. A seizure can easily cause depression. It can make the person feel "why me?" "not this again!" etc.etc. A seizure can cause disorientation and lack of ability to do things such as read, speak clearly, think straight and more. A person may have a sort of bad dream or a Deja-vu, or eerie feeling and this can make for poor emotions. Unfortunately, much of the public has very limited understanding of epilepsy and tend to consider those that do have it as being a lunatic, unstable, someone that falls down, foams at the mouth, etc. Her emotions may/ or may not be her fault. Might want to see a Dr. and get some medication.

Epilepsy is caused by disturbances of brain function. In many people, neurologists can isolate the problem to a specific area of the brain that is affected, by CT scans or MRI. These scans can sometimes (but not always) help them see the areas of the brain that are affected if there is injury or malformation of the area. So theoretically, if the problem that causes the seizures stems from an area of the brain that controls aggression or inhibition, then it could be a cause. But there's a good chance she's just mean......

Epilepsy does not cause one to be rude and insulting to anyone. This is probably the only excuse your sister can think of for her behavior.

No, it usualy doesn't. The only reason I can think of is after a seizure. After a seizure, the person is disoriented and could probably get very defensive and snap at people. But if your sister is not having frequent seizures, epilelsy is not a good excuse for her not treating people well. She might not have come to terms with her disease yet and that could put her in a foul state of mind. She could feel agression towards healthy people and lash out at them.

Only if she feels the world owes her something because she has it and no one else in the family does. Self pity can cause people to be very mean. Tell her to get over herself, that you did not give her epilepsy. I know it sounds mean but in this case she needs a rude awakening.

Having epilepsy should not make your sister treat other people badly. Maybe she is worried about her condition and that worry to causing her to be awful to others.

epilepsy just means you have seizures, she doesnt need to be being mean to people, thats just lame that shes using her disorder as an excuse to be a jerk.
