I am truely sorry to hear this. My uncle passed away from this cancer when I was a kid.
Yes it is a very bad cancer to have because most people who are diagnosed with this cancer die. Its the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States.
For survival rates, take a look at the following link.
http://www.cancersupportivecare.com/pancreas.html
Even when the cancer is local and resectable the median survival is about 17 months.
I recently saw a question asked in yahoo answers that ran a pretty good thread. Take a gander.

Pancreatic cancer is absolutely one of the worst types of cancer. Most patients have to go on experimental drugs because the ones we have now just aren't very effective. The best thing you can do is keep him upbeat & spend as much time with your grandpa as you can.

Among cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, it is the third most common malignancy and the fifth leading cause of cancer-related mortality. The disease is difficult to diagnose in its early stages, and most patients have incurable disease by the time they present with symptoms. The overall 5-year survival rate for this disease is less than 5%.
My father also suffers from this disease. My best advice for how you can help him is be supportive. Spend time and talk about what is going on with him, healthwise. Keep him comfortable and encourage eating and drinking plenty of fluids.

Yes, it is the WORST cancer to have and I'm sorry to hear about it. He will probably die within a year or less. My uncle had it as well and it killed him pretty fast. Just be there for him and pray a lot.
