Don't circumcise... There are lifelong negative consequences to circumcision. Most people don't realize that it permanently removes a huge amount of sexually erogenous tissue - it's not just skin that's being cut off. No person in the world would want less sexual feeling.
The foreskin also provides the penis with a natural lubrication as well as fantastic gliding action that is extremely comfortable for the female partner. A circumcised man has to thrust long and hard to achieve orgasm. Because of circumcision, the head of his penis is somewhat desensitized and leathery like the elbow, not smooth and moist. The uncircumcised man is aroused much more quickly so he only needs to thrust gently. Because he is thrusting gently he can remains close to the clitoris thereby allowing the woman to reach orgasm. The long hard thrusting misses the clitoris.
In addition there is an extreme pleasure producing area on the inner foreskin known as the ridged bands. This zone stretches out and unfoldes to cover the shaft of the penis during an erection, adding even more pleasure.
When the penis is flaccid, the foreskin also protects the corona of the penis head, which is extremely sentitive to touch. It's like, if you have a camera, you put a lens cover over it to protect it from scratches and abrasion. Well if you have something as sensitive as the head of the penis, you want that to be proteted too.
Most importantly, circumcision violates your son's right to decide for himself how he wants his penis to be. Why do that? There are many circumcised men who would rather not have been circumcised.
Go with the natural penis, it's a much better penis...!

Do your research and think this over very carefully before making a decision. It carries major implications for your son and his future sex partners.
Pros: A circumcised penis is easier to keep clean. An unclean penis can cause infection of sex partners. Some people also feel that boys are more comfortable if their penis looks like that of their father and other boys their age. Since circumcision is very common in the U.S., they may be more likely to see other boys and men with circumcised penises.
Cons: A circumcised penis is somewhat less sensitive than an un-cirumcised penis because the inside of the foreskin itself is sensitive, and it also protects the end of the penis from being rubbed by clothing and the like. Although it is uncommon, complications can occur as a result of circumcision that can seriously damage the function and appearance of the penis.
Debatable: In the recent past, most American women would have said they find circumcised penises more attractive, mainly because they are more accustomed to seeing them. However, it's really a matter of personal preference and there are plenty of women who find un-circumcised penises more attractive.
Circumcision is becoming less routine for American boys. In other countries, circumcision is rarely performed except as part of religious customs.
It is not difficult for an uncircumcised boy to be taught how to keep his penis clean, just as girls have to learn to keep their genitals clean. The uncircumcised penis is only "dirty" if the male it's attached to has hygiene problems.
Occasionally boys are born with foreskins that are very tight or too closely attached to the penis. They may be difficult or painful to retract. In such a case, a minor incision can be made to release the foreskin. It isn't necessary to do a complete circumcision.
Circumcision is not ordinarily considered reversible, although remnants of the foreskin can sometimes be stretched to provide partial protection for the head of the penis. The irreversibility of the procedure is a good reason to be careful in your decision.
On the other hand, don't take the approach that "we'll just leave the foreskin and he can decide for himself later." Although this seems like a good plan, it doesn't take into account the fact that circumcision is a very painful procedure for adults. If you decide against circumcision, do so for a reason.
I wish you and your family the best. Whatever decision you make, it should be yours and the boy's father's. Don't worry about your friends and neighbors opinions.

From a religious standpoint, it is standard if your child is going to grow up Jewish or Christian. Also, there have been studies done that have strongly suggested that circumcised males are at a lower risk of contracting STDs (especially AIDS) later in life. I am not saying your child will have a lifestyle that will expose him to STDs regularly; most people don't, after all, but this study was so persuasive that there have been programs implemented in Africa to encourage male circumcision as a way to try and slow the spread of HIV, and I think a parent should give a child every possible advantage when it comes to that child's health.

I'm for it, but you are going to hear a lot from the radical fringe that is against it.
The reasons that I am for it are that it reduces the rate of infections and is easier to keep clean, and sends the rate of penile cancer from one in a million to zero. As a woman, I prefer my men cut. As a mom, I don't regret having it done to my son.
There is only a narrow window to have the procedure performed. If it is going to be done, it is best to have it done when a boy is an infant. The wound heals 100% within a week at this age, because they are growing so fast. Doing it on an older child or a man will take a lot longer to heal.
Do request that the doc use painkillers (most pediatricians who perform them do, most OB/Gyns don't - so insist on it and don't take no for an answer if you decide to have this done).

why do that to your kid?
did you know that some babies withdraw into an almost shock like state after circumcision? anesthesia is dangerous for an infant, so you'd either be subjecting them to unnecessary pain or unnecessary risk.
do you know that circumcision results in decreased sensation?
why lop anything of a beautiful, perfect, tiny helpless creature? it's barbaric and arbitrary.
Edit: "fitting in" is no longer a valid concept in this debate, as rates for the procedure are running about 50/50 these days.
The foreskin has twelve known functions.
They are:
to cover and bond with the synechia so as to permit the development of the mucosal surface of the glans and inner foreskin.
to protect the infant's glans from feces and ammonia in diapers.
to protect the glans penis from friction and abrasion thoughout life.
to keep the glans moisturized and soft with emollient oils.
to lubricate the glans.
to coat the glans with a waxy protective substance.
to provide sufficient skin to cover an erection by unfolding.
to provide an aid to masturbation and foreplay.
to serve as an aid to penetration.
to reduce friction and chafing during intercourse.
to serve as erogenous tissue because of its rich supply of erogenous receptors.
to contact and stimulate the G-spot of the female partner.

I think it's a good idea, some people will say that it's a matter of just keeping things clean, but many men have to go through it as adults because the foreskin often grows over and tightens up, obstructing access for cleaning, and even peeing if it's allowed to grow. My husband (a neat freak and near germaphobe)had to have it done, and his cousin, and believe me, it's worth doing as a baby, they really don't suffer like a grown man... And personally, I like it better circumcised - Good luck, whatever you decide!

It makes it a lot easier for them to keep it clean. Uncircumcised you have to be sure to clean it well. I think he would "fit in" better and be less nervous in sexual encounters if he were circumcised. Nowadays they actually use anesthetics and he will never remember it. They'll practically even do it before you even take him home.
I'm all for it. I just feel like it's the more socially acceptable thing and I know I don't like all that extra whatnot.

If you're not Jewish don't do it.The hygiene argument was legitimate years ago when people didn't bathe often. Most people shower every day and a penis is easy (and fun) to wash.
If the foreskin is removed the end of the penis dries out and loses sensitivity. It's a shame so many guys are cut before they have a chance to decide for themselves. They'll never know how good sex can feel.
I object to being called a radical fringe. Genital mutilation is more radical than opposing it.
I won't mutilate your vagina if you don't cut me.

I'd say do it. Most people seem to prefer it, except for some religions that don't. And if you think he'll ever want it done, it's best to do it when he's a baby and won't remember the pain than to have someone going at it with a knife when he's old enough to know what's going on.

If you're planning to do it, do it early. Mines was early, and I don't even faintly recall doing it. I think you should do it, since the foreskin covering the penis can create moisture during hot times, and it's just uncomfortable and can spawn bacteria. So do it.
