This was Pumpkins second appointment/shots and deworming. His first one at 9 weeks, he did not sleep more than usual after. This time, he is still sleeping after6 hours. If I try to wake im, he cries this sad sad cry and falls right back to sleep. Could this be a reaction? Is this normal? Thanks! It's now 11pm, I kept thinking "oh, he'll be up soon" but he still isn't

my cats are my life and i freak out when they are acting out of character, but my vet has taught me that when cats are ill they will go and hide somewhere to not be disturbed, kinda how people do when we are sick, plus cats are finicky anyways, mine give me the "paw" when they arent in the mood for any of my lovin' and taco squeals as though i were hurting him, and yet not even 3 seconds later he is rip roaring through the house, dont worry about your lil pumpkin, a trip to the vet compares to a trip to the dentist for us, he has had a big day in his little life, so just cuddle up beside him and be glad for once he isnt tearing up the furniture, trying to trip you begging to be fed, even though he just had dinner and treats 5 minutes ago...

Chances are it's just a reaction to the shot and he'll get over it.

Resting is not a bad thing. Most cats sleep a lot in daytime, and do their food hunting at night. He should be all right tonight, but if he's still doing this tomorrow you might want to call the vet to be sure.

Cats normally sleep something like 16 hours a day so I would not go too nuts and crazy over it. I have Miss Kitty and she is always curled up somewhere sleeping, but then she's about 10 years old. I usually hear her up roaming the house in the middle of the night. She's become adept at opening bi-fold doors from either side, and I will often hear her trying to open these all hours of the night. But during the day she is usually sprawled somewhere in a sun spot taking a snooze. I wouldn't worry too much about their sleeping, it's part of their job description.

I would think Pumpkins is okay, my cats sleep all for hours at a time now and the one she does the same thing with this loud sad cry when I wake her, If Pumpkins seems out of sort in the morning I'd definitely call your vet, but I'd venture to say he's okay.

He probably is having a reaction to the shots, sometimes they get flu like symptoms (the injections are for cat flu) I would ring the vet when you can, meanwhile keep an eye on Pumpkins water intake. Last time we had our cats wormed and vaccinated all at once they were both sick, we decided not to do it again. If the vet is using drontal wormer - change it, it is very strong and makes them sick; there is an alternative wormer. Good luck!

yes, normal I know this is scary when kitty isn't herself, When I got my cat from the humane society. Her first shots knocked her out for more than two days. She would get up get a drink or use the bathroom and be right out again. She didn't want any one around her and went to the darkest corner under the bed, as long as kitty is getting up every now and again and eating and drinking water and using the bathroom kitty should get around to being herself in 48 hours. Just keep your eye on kitty and make sure kitty is sleeping.

Yes this is a reaction seen in kittens and puppies after they get their shots. They are sore, headachy and cry when they are handled. They are very uncomfortable and sleep much, even if it is fitful. However they get back to their old ways quickly. If you are concerned then certainly phone your vet and apprise them of your concerns.

yes, the shots usually tire the kittens out quite a bit, so i wouldn't be too concerned at this point. if the cat isn't perkier by tomorrow i might give the vet a call.

your cat just got injected with several million dead viruses. yes, it is normal for him to be sleepy and sore. he will be like this from 24-48 hours after vaccines. call the Dr. in the morning to make sure they don't want to recheck him. if his eyes swell up or he has hives or acts like he can't breathe, take him to an emergency vet ASAP. but what you are describing is very normal kitty behavior for a kitten his age. make sure you get him tested for Felv/FIV if you haven't already. don't worry, he's fine.
