Yes.....break it off in pieces as you take a bite of the salad. If you don't it would be like eating a taco and not eating the taco shell.

If you don't want to eat it.....order it or make it at home in a bowl.

I don't see why not! Unless they used the old, nasty taco shells, like my school cafeteria does. If the tortilla shell is used as the bowl, with no plate underneath, you may want to eat just the sides, especially if it's been sitting on a nasty tabletop.

Also, a great way to make a taco salad--

Order a regular hard-shelled taco. When it arrives, hit it with a hammer until it's broken into small pieces. I don't recommend doing this when dining with people you want to impress (employer, date, date's parents, etc.)

Of course, you break it off in pieces and eat it with the salad. Did you think you wore it out as a hat after your done eating?

Yes, it is great, although most places bake them instead of frying them. It just doesn't have quite the same great taste. Break it off as you eat your salad and use it as a dipping chip. Crunch, crunch!
