One is, as I am sure you know, the contraction for you are while the other shows possesive case. There, I wrote that for all the yahooites who might read this and do not have a clue about proper English. While I am not perfect myself, some of the spellings are simply too strange at times so it is little wonder that some are confused by the two words. It is a sad sign of the times I am afraid.

youre right about the dumb confusion over the spellings. its just one of those things that teachers didnt press on us enough when we were little. about the pronounciation though, i think that depends on where youre from- i pronounce them the same way

I ask the exact same thing all the time. And the other homonyms people can't seem to get straight like 'there' and 'they're'. Bugs the crud outta me.

I've never known them to sound different, which may be a south Texas thing, but in school I teach my kids to know the difference by context. "You're going to ride your bike"

They don't take the time to proofread or they never paid attention when they were in school. It also bugs me how people abuse the English language.
