If you want to find out about different religions firsthand, you should attend worship services of different religions. That's what I did, and I can guarantee it's a lot more enlightening than anything you'll find on here.
As for the most prominant religion, here is some information on that, complete with lists, graphs and all:
http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html
It lists Christianity in one clump. I'm not sure if you were looking for info on sects of Christianity, but 1.1 billion of the 2.1 billion Christians in the world are Catholic. I know that much. As for the rest of the groups, I'm not sure. Here's one source on that, but I'm sure there are many more out there if you feel like looking.

I am baptized Catholic and Catholicism has been a huge part of my life. At this point in my life, I do not attend Mass EVERY week... but do attend semi-regularly. I do NOT believe that others can only go to Heaven if they believe exactly as I do. That is one thing I love about my religion; it makes allowance for God to have the final say, and leaves some of the afterlife without doctrine attached. Cause the truth is, we don't KNOW. Only God knows, and He's a more just judge than any of us could ever be.
I also believe that a personal relationship with God is healthy, and that's what He wants for us. He doesn't want us to think of him as some being in the sky. He wants us to know he's a source of unconditional love. And the whole REASON he sent His Son to us is so we could see how to love... see how it's *supposed* to be. None of us will ever be that good, but in my opinion the whole point of life is to continuously work to improve your ability to love God's other children.

I worship God the Father on the true Sabbath Saturday (John 4:22-24; Rev.14:7; Exodus 20:8-11) like the Jews. There is only one God and that is the Father(1Cor.8:6; 1Tim.2:5; Eph.4:6; John 20:17). I worship him on the (Lev.23)Sabbath Feast days too. Why?---Because I love him so much(John 14:15; 15:10)! He even called (2Tim.1:9)me out of 2nd Babylon into his Church; he really loves me to save me from sin. He takes care of me and provides me of what I need; I would be lost without him. I'm so greatful that I have a loving God!

I worship God and God alone. I don't "pick sides" like most religious people, but I tend to follow Christian doctrine most heavily for traditions sake. I do however, appreciate all cultures, and see all religions as diverse paths to the same God.

It is written ... I Am the Lord Thy God and you shall have no other Gods before me. You shall not make images and bow to them. I Am a Jealous God visiting the iniquities onto the 3rd & 4th generation of those that hate me. I pour out my blessings unto the 1000s that love me and keep my commandments.
Jesus said, " Love the Lord Thy God with all your heart, mind, soul & strength, and to love others as yourself.".
I worship this God. He is the God of the bible. I Love this God with a passion because He first loved me. He washed away all my sins with His redeeming blood. He Has made me His child. He has given me the Holy Spirit, of comfort & Truth. And I can pray to Him 24/7 and He never tires of me. He continually watches over me & directs my path daily. He has delivered me from much and has healed me. I claim His promises in His written Word. His Word is True. And there is so much more.....
I have faith in this God. My religious works would result from my obedience to His Word. His commandments is Love.

I worship God the Son, God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit. Why? Because He is alive and well! It is a personal relationship one on one with a spiritual Holy God. One who speaks to my heart thru spirit, One who hears everything I ask, and answers everything I talk with Him about. He dosen't always answer the way I think He should, but then He is God is'nt He? His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts.
He has proven over and over to me that He is trustworthy. He is the Healer. He takes joy in His children. He is all powerful and all wise.
If we lack wisdom with something we can go to Him and ask Him what to do for He is our Father. He enjoys it when we come to Him and spend time with Him. He is light and in Him is no darkness at all. God is love. We can love the unlovely with love given to us thru His spirit. He loves everyone and desires that all come to Him. He loves righteousness. He loves it when people do the right thing, even while nobody is looking, especially then. He loves it when we're honest and trustworthy with others. He loves it when we're kind. He is love, caring, compassionate, kind, wise, powerful, creative, and just think He loves me and you! Yes, this is my kind of God! He tells us to not worry, but instead talk to him about our worries and let Him take care of us. H Many people pray to God and when He dosen't answer the way they think He should, they walk away, bummer, because He sees things from such a different perspective, and knows what's best for us. He solves our problems in ways that we never even think of, yes this is my God and I am loving being a Christian. I've walked with Him for 24 years and He's helped me thru alot.

THe God and the Goddess. I follow the Roman pantheon, I think that more people should be aware of Wicca so that there is less persecution. WE are the fastest growing religion in the US.

I am an lcms lutheran. I believe in what the bible says and nothing else. any faith that adds or takes away from the words in the bible is damned, as God says in revelations. There is only one true and holy god, in three forms. only he has the power to be three forms of the same person. I believe this because the bible is what the Lord wants us to believe, that's why he gave it to us!

The "most prominent religion" here is Christianity, and a strong atheist contingent. We see a small neo-pagan/pagan community chiming in.

I worship God and His Son, Jesus Christ, because He loves me and forgives me for the dumb things I do or say. He rescued me from my sin, and I am grateful. I am a Christian, of the non-denominational variety. I am opposed to Catholocism, primarily due to the fact that Catholics worship and pray to Mary, Jesus Christ's mother. I don't think that people should do that.

Firstly, I'd like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond to your question.
As Muslims, We Worship Allah (God) and him Alone.
for verily our whole creed lays upon the statement "There is no object worthy of worship but Allah"
why? because who deserves more right to be worshiped than the one who created us? the one who has bestowed so many blessings upon us?
It is human instinct to worship and believe in God Alone. A person is born in this state, and it is only when outside forces interfere(like parents, or surroundings) that make a Person believe or worship otherwise.
I Love Islam, because it is the only religion that makes sense. and it is truely the most beautiful religion on the face of this earth.
What other religion follows what all the prophets taught "to Worship the creator alone"
if you go to anyone and ask them to explain to you the trinity, they will not be able to give you an adequete answer.
Never once did Jesus (peace be upon him) claim to be God. If you look into the bible, if you have a red lettered one that highlights supposedly what Jesus has said, than never once will you find that he told his people to worship him. On the contrary, he said "Worship Thy Father Alone" i.e. worship God Alone.
In Islam we believe in Jesus as a highly respected Prophet of Allah (God). just like Moses, Adam, Abraham, Noah, etc.
They All came with the same message : To worship the creator Alone.
Indeed, it is very blasphemous to say that Jesus Is God.
#1. Jesus was A human, and everyone will agree upon that. meaning he ate, slept, used the bathroom, etc. Things that Muslims Believe are not attributes fit for the Lord of the Universe, because he is free of all needs.
#2. The Christians believed that Jesus died on the Cross. How can God Die? if that were the case, than how can it be that he would be on the cross saying "Why have you forsaken me" to the one who is in heaven, if they were one in the same. and how is it that He knew he would die, but didnt know at the same time?
and if he died for 3 days, who was God during those 3 days?
nothing makes sense.
but everything in Islam Makes sense. wouldnt it be more logical that he were a Righteous Prophet of God, rather than God himself?
If you believe
1. that there is no object worthy of worship but Allah (God)
2. you believe in the angles
3. Heaven and hell
4. The Books that came before (the Old testament, Gospels, Quran)
5. you believe in the all the Prophets of God starting from Adam, including Moses, Jesus, Abraham, Noah, and Muhammad peace be upon all of them)
and finally
6. Divine decree.
than welcome to Islam.
Finally, if you do not wish to listen to anything i've said, at least do one thing which you have nothing to lose.
Seek guidance from God himself to guide you on the strait path, and see where it leads you.
I Swear by Allah, that if you Sincerely and whole-heartedly ask Him for Guidance to the truth. He will lead you to it.
you have nothing you lose.
I ask God to guide you all to the truth. ameen.
