Lithium is for bipolar (it manages the mania and depression). Effexor is generally for depression, sometimes anxiety, and Xanax is for anxiety.
So yes, they should work.

Yes....Lithium, Effexor and Xanax are all what doctors give for the symtoms you're having. But peoples chemistries are different.
You could be have sensitivities to one of the meds. and instead of it helping you, your bodies fighting it. Example: I have Crohns Disease and the doctors used to put me on Prednisone (Steriods). I'd end up with too much energy racing around the room...then racing around a night still working because I was now an Insomniac. After awhile of this...my brain couldn't handle it and I cracked! It's called Predisone Phychosis. My body just CAN'T handle that medication! Every time I was prescribed it....the Crohn's would get better but I'd end up locked up in a Phyciatric Hospital.....they'de take me off of it..........my body would start bleeding again....but I'd sleep (in pain once again!) Now I'm on something different, I refuse to take Prednisone. And I'm a lot better....plus I sleep in my own bed!
So talk to your doctor and see if you could be having some sensitivities to it. You need to find the right combination or just one that works for you. I've mentioned this before...I take Trileptal for my Bi-Polar issues and it works great.....try bringing that up to the doctor and see if you can try it. You may have better success with it! I'd be afraid to continue taking so much meds. that you're on. My liver and kidneys would be damaged!
Take care Gen.....

You're on quite the cocktail there. But don't sweat it. What's important- Do you think/feel that the meds are helping you? If not, then you really need to be discussing this with your doc. Finding the right combination of meds is usually a trail and error thing.

Watch out for side effects. Talk to your doctor regularly about dosage and get followups
