Tell that to most black people who called each other the "n" word as a term of endearment. But yet if any one outside our race uses that word, "look out".

Of course I would not want to be called that word it has a very negative history behind it, but just like I have written about this before we all do it I have heard white girls say "hey slut" to their friends, seen them drive cars with sayings on them that say powered by *****, I have heard gay people call each other f a g, and I have heard hispanics call other hispanics wet back so why do other races particularly whites not understand some blacks call each other n i g g a , we all do it but it seems that blacks are the ones looked down upon, this just shows how the world looks at our faults differently from everyone else when they do it too.

I am so sick of people asking this question. The n word is not use as a negative anymore nor is it positive. It's all in how you use it. As for Quay Lover the n word is not a slave and that is very offensive for you to even say that. There is no slaves, long ago their was slaves but, not now so how can a slave be the n word. This word was use to make black people feel very bad about themselves. Black you you know that you are beautiful, cool and everything else so keep it positive and if anyone want to say different the screw them.

You know what, that is stereotypical and ignorant. I find there to be two kinds of black people. The well educated (and I would know cause one of my best friends is African American and I am proud to be her friend). Yes there are the n word just like there are hillbillies or spicks (for hisppanic-which I am hispanic by the way) or the stuck up french. But not everyone is like that. Has anyone ever taken the chance to see some of the black people that are sowell educated and polite. There are also the ones who think they are so gangsta and they drop out and that **** which are the n word. But just like whites do that stuff too, and hispanics. There are good and bad of everyone and it shouldn't bother you if someone called you that because like you said they are ignorant. Power to the black :)! Good luck sweetie ;)!

Not to sound overtly WHITE...but let's look at the origin of the word.

In the days for buying slaves from Africa, (sorry, not all were prisoners of war or pillage) A very popular country was Niger. Now it was the illiterate white crew members who read the shipment sheet as N!ggar rather than Niger (NIGH-Jur) and since slaves were a commodity, they were treated thus so, not being called as individuals but rather by the country they were bought from. Thus the ignorance was born by a limey white guy. And always carried a negative connotation.

Well since you said..."to mostly black people" I'm assuming your interested in comments from white people too. So here is my comment.....

I think its wrong to use a word...within a group...that if used outside of the group is considered racist. The word is either offensive...or its not. I don't buy into that psycho-babble about how only those people who were discriminated against by that hateful word...can be allowed to use it.

I think that as time passes...we are able to recognize a lot of things that were common place...but now, are completely dated and useless. Its the passage of time and the ability to learn that shows us the ignorance that we once wallowed in. Its time for EVERYONE to give up symbols and words of hate.

As Forrest Gump said: stupid is as what stupid does!
I'm a white cracker, does that bother me when blacks call me that? No, do I call them the "N" word no. We are all brothers, I'm a former US MARINE that has fought beside men of all nationalities. I spent 30 years in the Marines and have seen many friends of mine die, Bottom line, We all bleed the same color, RED, Don't you think it's time we drop the hatred and quit playing the race card? And start playing the only card that matters, The Human Race!

The word has horrible connotations associated with it. There are no friendly ways of using it. The use of it between black people is ridiculous. What sort of endearment can be identified with a word that was meant to degrade people?

The majority if not all of rappers are previous criminals. The majority of blacks don't find that word endearing. The people who will do anything to make a buck are perpetuating that crap. That goes from the record execs, on down to the wannabe rap stars.
