In genesis there is a story about Onan "spilling his seed" when God told him to impregnate Tamar. This spilling of the seed has been interpreted as the Bibles stance AGAINST masterbation...however the sin here as I unerstand it is, disobeying God. Also, what Onan did was coitus interuptus, not really masterbation.

However, when Jesus is questioned about one who commits adultery, he says the one who has had adultery in their thoughts is as guilty. Therefore, it's the thoughts that give rise to the act are just as 'sinful".

But Jesus makes our sins right. He doesn't condemn us for our humanity. And these urges and thoughts are part of our humanity.

So it's tough, I don't think it makes you a bad person. But I don't think it's the type of thing God ultimately wants us to find fulfillment in. I think it can be hurtful when the thoughts begin to cause you to objectify women or not engage in normal healthy relationships.

Pray about it for the better answers.

That's one of the things that lies within your freedom to decide for yourself. It's not condemned as sin by the Scriptures (even obliquely), so therefore no one has the right to tell you it's a sin. If you like it and feel okay about it, then go right ahead. The only exception I might make is if it causes you to lust after some particular person an awful lot. Be careful what you fantasize about, or that aspect of things could become a problem.

The dictionary defines "self abuse" as masturbation.

Since, there’s no Scripture condemning the act of masturbation as a sin, it stands to reason that it’s an act which has the potential to be honoring to God and is in accord with the fact that the Holy Spirit lives in the believer. Solitary masturbation is not an act which harms the individual’s body, nor does it involve the joining of one body and spirit to another as is the case with sexual intercourse. Through the releasing of sexual tensions, it can act as a barrier to seeking release through immoral outlets. A part of honoring God with our bodies is doing whatever’s necessary to keep our bodies under control.
In the area of sexuality, masturbation can be an effective way of doing so.

There was the mention of spilling your seed on the ground, That does sound like it to me.

but part of the main sin is also lust, I don't know of a person who has done it, that is not thinking of someone when they do it. Thus lust and sin

Masturbation is not mentioned in the bible. People think it's a sin because lustful thoughts are, and they are usually involved. God's not worried about the act of masturbation, rather He is concerned with your thoughts and your heart.

Okay here's reasons why Masturbation is a sin...

1 Corinthians 6:15-20
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make [them] members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body [with] [her]? For "the two," He says, "shall become one flesh." 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit [with] [Him]. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit [who] [is] in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

^First, Masturbation isnt honoring God. Second, God wouldnt masturbate.^

Matthew 5:27-28
"You have heard that it was said to those of old, `You shall not commit adultery.' 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

^When you masturbate; you think lust...So thats a sin. Same with porn, thats a sin. But if you can masturbate without lust, then ur lucky.^

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

^Like i said, Porn/Masturbation is sexual immorality. Your not honoring God, and it's passion of Lust^

1 John 2:15-16
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that [is] in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world.

^Just because everyone else does it, or says its right, it's not. Satan make masturbation as a tool to make people LUST, and forget that sex is within marriage.^

I guess because it is a gratification of lust and lust is a sin. I am probably going to Hell then. It has been shown that people who masturbate are the same types as those who have sex before marriage and that might lead to dancing so it also is bad. Also those who dance go to movies also. If masturbation is a sin then entertainment is also. Just my thoughts

Because as a society we are indoctrinated to believe that the body, it's functions and our natural, God-given sexuality are dirty, sinful and shameful. If we were taught to embrace our sexuality in a healthy, safe way from childhood, not taught that certain body parts are shameful, there would be far fewer sex crimes in the world today.
