One of my cats likes to knead really soft stuff like blankets with his claws while he nuzzles it. He doesn't suck it but just sticks his nose in it and drools. Gotta love cats. But why does your cat like the shoulder part of your pjs? Is there something special about it?

I had a cat that did the same thing...

She started when she was a kitten, sucking on the front part of my pj's. When I outgrew them, I still put the top on over me, when we'd snuggle at night. She was so happy to suck on the lace.

My mother threw that top away one day when I was at school. Heidi NEVER purred again. She lived for 10 more years, but never purred. It broke my heart...

i love this, it is a difficult question to answer, firstly a cat when taken in by us humans never really grows up and looks upon us as it's mother, your cat is actually suckling, a lot of cats do this it is quite normal, it is more common for cats to do this if the piece of clothing is a natural fabric like cotton and especially wool. this is a edited answer there is a lot more to the explaination but this answer covers the basics.

A lot of cats do that, they pretend they are suckling on mom. It is harmless. You can either let her/him do it or not. The feel of the material prbably reminds the cat of Mom teat or something. I have had many cats do this. I have had cats do this while they scrench their paws back and forth too like they are trying to get more milk out of mom teat.

Again, it is harmless, no harm no foul, either let the cat do it or not, it is up to you.

Not to sound rude, I agree with the first person, but also, my friend had a male cat that did this when you had a blanket on you, and he was in a way "pleasing himself" because if you let him keep doing it, he would actually finish the job. Weird(gross) but true.

It sounds like he was weaned too early. He sees you as his " mother". You feed and water him, clean his box, and give him love. Give him some rubber chew toys for his oral fixations. Or let him sleep with one of your old tshirts that he can suck on that you can put over your pj's.

It looks like your PJs remind your cat of his mother. You'll have to 'wean' him.

I too believe it was because he was weaned off his mom too soon. I have a nine year old male who still does this if I am wearing a terry cloth bathrobe. He has done it since I brought him home when he was very small.

He likes the fabric. It comforts him and brings him back to his kitten days. Many cats do this, there is nothing wrong.

it's a possibility that your cat was weaned from its mother too early, so it's trying to suckle. my parents' cat did this for quite awhile before she finally grew out of it.
