My husband and I so much want a child in our home, but the costs of adopting one is staggering to middle income people. I don't work, but we own our home, and live comfortably, but to come up with the fees asked to just start the paperwork, well, it just isn't possible. We have thought of foster parenting, but we both love children so much we are afraid that we might get too attached to let the child be removed once we have fell in love with it. We have so much love to give a child, and it saddens me to see how some are starving and homeless, yet we can't afford to take one in and nurture and love it.

Adopting a child from the child welfare system in your state is not expensive. Check with them to see if there are state subsidies for families who want to foster-to-adopt!
Please don't get discouraged - you sound like someone who really wants to be a parent. You should go for it, if you both really want it.

Unfortunately people change there silly little minds and when it involves a baby the stakes are heartbreaking, literally. I am a firm believer if you have so much love to give, then give it! Nothing ventured nothing gained or lost! The chance that you may change a life for the better a gift that you will treasure in the years to come no matter what the outcome of the custody. You will always look back and have the joy and sorrows if you do take in children, you will always look back and wonder what could have been if you don't! Remember the most important thing about loving any child, it should always be unconditional!@@ Good luck, God Bless you in your choice! V

I would suggest that you talk to an accountant or an adoption agency because I am sure that the initial expenses are tax deductible. Also, many times foster situations can turn into permanent situations.
If you heart is in the right place, it is never a bad thing to help a child. Even if the child moves on, you know that you did a service to the little one.

I'm really not sure. It may be that the agencies feel that if a person is willing to fork out serious cash that they may be more serious about being a parent even though it doesn't seem very fair. They do have to look out for the well being of the child so being financially stable I would think would be one of their main concerns considering the cost of raising a child these days is quite high.

My wife and I adopted a child for $500.00
We were very fortunate to find a little 16 old girl pregnant with her second child. We knew the girls mother fairly well, so they approached us when they decided to give the baby up. We graciously accepted, spent $500 for lawyer and court fees, and she was ours. We took her home from the hospital. That was 6 years ago. Private adoption is the cheapest way to go, by far, if you can get lucky. Good Luck !!!!

Because it's the fact of our scummy society that these organization pray on the desperate and needy. They know that the people who are likely to adopt are those that have exhausted all options to conceive naturally, so they try to get as much money from you as they can. They're orange presses, they will squeeze every last dollar from you.
It's sad, but it's easier, cheaper, and faster to adopt overseas than to adopt a kid down the street at a foster care home.
No one cares about the children or the families that want them. They just care about money money money...

Supply and demand. It never changes; the monster that has been built around surrogacy, adoption and child support divisions of our government is outrageous and they do not care who it destroys. Until the head is cut off of the monster it will always be that way. I am sure that you guys would be good parents and my heart is sad for you. I hope you the best in your endeavors and I will say a special prayer for you both.

Probably because the paperwork that need to be done are extensive--they will do some research on your side, and on the baby's side.
It also might be some sort of a test on how willing and sincere you really are in adopting the baby.

They don't want to give the child to someone who can't be financially responsible for them. They need to place a child in the home of someone who has the means to take care of one
